I was reading the Sunday Life and it says Newry have to make more cut backs! John Martin is on his way out and they're letting Seamus Kane go on loan. Trevor McMullan is also up for eviction. Why these players?
These are some of the best players we have. Why not get rid of Glenn Downey? He's rubbish. Morrow, Topley, Irwin aren't worth much. Get them out and keep are good players. On another point. Why did Annagh United beat us??? We has 8 first team players. They're a wee amateur side. That's a total joke. That Mid Ulster Cup was the only thing we had a chance of winning. Only days after this embarrassing defeat we nearly fall at the hands of Crusaders. We have to rely on a 30+ year old full back to spur our blushes.
Those two new signings don't look the part. If we have nobody decent up front why isn't John Joe given a chance? He's as good as the rest of them and he's the only one with a bit of heart that would give his all for Newry Town Football Club, there's not too many of our players that would do that. Maybe things will change in the New Year. When Robbie Casey's back to full fitness, Raymond Byrne has recovered and we get a big centre foward on loan or something we might be a half decent side. All I want to say is...GIVE JOHN-JOE A CHANCE!!
P.S Could Stephen please shut up!!!!
Sean, Newry

what a joke cannot even beat the crues at home! get alfie out!!
Stephen, Newry

I agree with the comment earlier about the support from the fans. I do believe that vocal support can influence referees and assistants. The only vocal bunch we have are the group of young lads who turn up to most of the games and roar from the back of the stand and an un-named somebody who uses filthy language against the referees and assistants. If only we had more of the former and less of the later!!! Does this silver haired, bearded loud mouth not realise the harm he is doing every week. Not only to the team but also to fans who dont want to have their children polluted by his foul mouth!!! By the way i think we should chip in and get the club to buy those young fellas in the stand a drum. It would do wonders and might even drown out bucket mouth!!!
Paul, Belfast
Ed. If anyone wants to send me money go right ahead !

I think the town should cut there loses with Alfie and make Gavin Dykes manager with Robbie casey as assistant manager! We might actully start to move up the league with some people in charge that actully know what they are doing!!
Stephen, Newry

just to reply again to kelly from Belfast jonathan cowan is in america, and i would also like to inform you that he has a long term girlfriend who also thinks that he is "VERY cute"!!!!!!!!!!! Also to the Boys, Congratulations on your win!!!!Keep up the good work!!!!!!

In reply to Andy, Chris Coffey is at Distillery. I think he recently signed a new contract to stay there. One thing about Friday's match. Yes we played poorly and yes we ground out a result but couldn't the players expect more from our supporters. The crowd was small enough to suggest that those who turned up are pretty loyal and yet we never got behind the team atall apart from the choir of 10 or so at the back of the stand. I'm not expecting too much, just simple encouragement. The team took the field for the 2nd half to virtual silence. Not even a simple round of encouraging applause, or even the usual moaning! Is it any wonder the better supported teams seem to get all the decisions when their supporters can influence the refs. The team deserves better.
Jimmy, Newry

Chris Coffey is with Distillery. Was that really Andy Myler that sent that comment into the social club? He was one of my favourite players while he was with Newry, I'll never forget the hat-trick he scored at Taylors Avenue in Newry's 5-0 emolition of Carrick. I believe he's now in the Eircom First division with Athlone.
Sean, Newry

Hello, I played for Newry a couple of seasons ago and I was just wondering what Paul Straney, Kieran McParland, John Drake, Chris Coffey and Michael Crowe are doing now football wise. Any info. Cheers Andy
Andy Myler, Dublin
Ed. Paul Stranney is with Cliftonville now since Davy O'Hare took over the keeper spot. Jonny Drake left after taking the club to court for compensation. I think he may be with Distilery now. Can't remember where Chris went . .was it Larne ? Michael Crowe , ummh that was a while ago ?!?

Paul Straney - A great servant to Newry who nearly lost his life in a Town jersey a couple of years back. We all know this....SO WHY DID HE GET SO MUCH ABUSE FROM A VERY WELL KNOWN OLD MAN THAT GOES TO ALL NEWRY GAMES AND CALLS HIMSELF A SUPPORTER. He's a disgrace, how dare he do this! Every match home or away, if the town play good or bad this man gives abuse to both teams. He calls people TRAMPS for no reason. Everyone hears this so why do we take it??? Get him the f*ck out and don't tell him to come back!!! Yes you McC******!!!
The Observer, Newry

Just in case you think I am that clown "Stephen, Newry" Newry I am not. He does not have a clue. So I just want to comment on the performance against cliftonville. The result was good but the performance was poor. You know what they say, good teams grind out results even when their playing poor. If Newry could get a good top quality irish league striker like Vinnie Arkins they would be going places just like Portadown. I know Dickson is playing well but he is not a good finisher and that's what we need.
Stephen Cunningham, Newry

Good win on friday night! It's about bloody time as well! Lets hope we can go on a bit of a winning run now!!
Stephen, Newry

Newry's B team are top of there divsion and why do we not give them a chance againest clif's on Friday night because Seamus Kane is in the reserves and he is one of best players and kevin truman should be given a chance and ALF GIVE THE YOUNG PEOPLE A CHANCE COME ON!
Neil, Newry

well i see Stephen has started moaning about the manager again after two very hard games against the league leaders. fair enough the defence was terrible at portadown but i thought we held our own against the glens and deserved a point at least! insofar as the wages bill goes we cant keep expecting the "money men" as he calls them to bail us out! if stephen used the internet less he could buy the odd lotto ticket, stay for a drink in the social or even get a group together to sponser a game himself!! there are more positive ways for you to use up the obvious energies you have stephen. continually chirping from the sidelines dosnt do the club any good!!! i am sure any donations you have towards the wage bill would be greatly appreciated by the club!! regards!!
Paul, Belfast

To answer your question Kelly, Johnny Cowan is away to America for a year. Very poor performance on Friday night. I hope that left back isn't here for much longer, he's bloody awful! If we could get a descent left back from somewhere it would really strengthen the defence, with Dykes and Lee in the centre and Rocky at right back and a half descent left back we mightn't let in just as many goals. Another point - We really need a centre forward!!!If we had someone to knock in a few goals, Casey in the middle of the field and Dykes at the back to frighten a few defences we could climb up the league table and maybe get into the Intertoto cup again and have a run in the cup!
Sean, Newry

Why can portadown go from being a average side last season, to a great team in a matter of months? Why? because they bring in good quality players! unlike the plonker of a manager that we have!
Stephen, Newry

No luck lads against Portadown there really good this year. Deano came back to haunt us, he's still very good. But we will get better!
Kelly, Belfast

As your choir very vocally suggested, the Ship Yard may indeed be "down sizing" but Glentoran will ALWAYS be the team to beat. We have a history second to none. A support more loyal than any and a Pride in our Club and its roots in the Heart of East Belfast. slan
Colin, Ballygowan

Does anyone know where Johnny Cowan is at? Where did he go to? He was a really good young player and I thought he was really cute
Kelly, Belfast

Why is there no match programmes anymore? Most other premiership clubs have a programme for every match they play but Newry don't even have a programme for matches against the likes of Binfield and Glenborin. Why is this? P.S The programme for the Man Utd game was very poor.
Sean, Newry

The reason there has been cut backs this season is down to the fact that no teams are getting relegated this season! so the money men at the club thought they would save themselves a few pound and cut they wage bill down, because of this the quality of players turning out for the town is getting worse! Come next season the wage bill will increase because relegation becomes a factor once again and Newry will want to increase there chances of staying up!  Stephen, Newry

Here here, I'm with you all the way lads as you may have noted in my previous comments. The team deserves our support, not the tiresome moaning of Stephen and his ilk Jimmy, Newry

I HAVE JUST SCROLLED THROUGH THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS AND AM SURPRISED AT THE LEVEL OF DISSATISFACTION WITH THE TEAM AND THE MANAGER. THE LEAGUE POSITION SO FAR IS NOT A TRUE REFLECTION OF HOW THE TEAM IS PERFORMING. WE HAVE ACTUALLY LOST LESS MATCHES THAN MOST IN THE LEAGUE AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE THE AMOUNT OF DRAWS WE HAVE. ALFIE WAS REPORTED IN THE PAPERS AT THE WEEKEND AS SAYING THAT SOME OF THE PLAYERS WERE NOT "WINNERS", WELL THEY CERTAINLY ARNT LOSERS EITHER!!! THE NEW STAND IS FANTASTIC AND IF THE FANS WERE MORE POSITIVE AND VOCAL IN THEIR SUPPORT WE COULD FILL IT EVERY WEEK. AS FOR THIS CLOWN STEPHEN WHO KEEPS RAISING HIS HEAD MAY I SUGGEST YOU GO TO YOUR GP AND TELL HIM ABOUT YOUR DEPRESSION. THEY SAY PROZAC IS A MARVELOUS THING. . . . IT MAY EVEN BRIGHTEN UP YOUR OUTLOOK OF NTFC!!!! ? Paul Belfast

After reading your comments 'Stephen, Newry' I have come to the conclusion that you are a plank, who clearly knows nothing about football!! (to put it mildly). Firstly of all let me address your latsst comments: ' I am not surprised that we went out of the cup this week as I still think that we'll achieve nothing this season!!'...What sort of 'muppet' follows a football team and thinks that they'll achieve nothing that season when the season is only over a quarter of the way started? Any genuine fan, never mind the manager, players and directors of any club always have the belife that their teams is capable of achieveing something!! If they did'nt Stephen then what would be the point son?? Sure whats the point in the players training on Tuesday and Thursday nights? Whats the point in holding fund raising nights for the club? Whats the point in you going to the matches, and airing your worthless and negative comments on this web site, which only agraviate GENUINE fans! like myself?? Fans who have a belife that maybe we could beat Glentoran on Saturday, now stephen what an achievement that would be!!A thing that saddens me and some of my fellow supporters is people like you Stephen, people who just go to Newry Town and don't encourage the team, and manager, don't applaud good play and don't lift the team when they need it. BUT yous are quick to criticise and unfortunately everyone else has to listen to yous!!Stephen, please give Alfie a break!! Alfie Wylie, a man who puts more effort into Newry Town Football Club than anyone else at the Showgrounds, both on the managerial front and the commercial front!! Does it take a while for the penny to drop stephen?? Did you not know that there were sever cut backs at the club and Alfie had to release some of his squad??Look at the money that Trevor Anderson has spent at Ards compared to us and we'er above them in the league!! Is that not an achievement Stephen?? For us to be above Trevor and his wee red ! friends new project!! So Stephen lay off Alfie!! I would ! take this opportunity to ask Genuine Fans like myself to support me and to show this support by writing in to this site...Does nobody else agree with me and think that we need to get behind the team and Alfie more?? Does nobody else think that Alfie is doing a good job?? If so please please write in!!Good luck Lads for Saturday,EVEN IF WE DRAW IT WILL BE AN ACHIEVEMENT!!RMG, Newry

Why isn't Mark Gilmore on the first team. He is my hero and is the sexiest man to walk this earth. He should give up football and be a porn star and him and I could have a good time. Gilly you sexy beast. Caroline, Newry
Ed. How come you voted for Craven then ?

Is there any Newry fans out there interested in joining an irish league football forum. Nearly all clubs are represented in it. At the minute I am the only Newry member but hopefully when more people see this it will encourage them to join. It's easy to become a member. You can select your own clubs badge and it will apear beside each message you enter. It's really good craic!! You can find this forum at http://www.footballforums.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=35  sean, Newry

It does not surprise me that the town went out of the cup during the week, as i still believe they will achieve nothing this season!! Stephen, Newry

Todays performance was pathetic, the team were awful. We didn't have once descent chance in the whole match. The Newry man of the match had to be Trevor McMullan - and he's being released soon. It's not looking good for the town at the moment. Sean, Newry

Hope uz have a good season and hope the town supporters stop yappin(yeah u stephen) theres a website that supports Lee Feeney, a former irish league player it is; http://www.geocities.com/clubs/feenofanclubni Feeno Supporter, Newry

what are yous so called suporters on about. David McGeogh is a super player and if played in his proper position use might be able to see this. He is a left back not a left winger, anyway he is too good for newry anyway. John

Who's this tube Barry that says Robbie Casey is the worst player in the team. Have you ever been to a Newry Town match before?? He's overal top goalscorer in the Irish league this seaon, that's a fantastic achievement considering he missed the first 3 or 4 matches through injury. It's obvious he's the best player in the team by a long shot and the whole team look up to him! All that I can say Barry is that you don't have a clue!!! Sean McKevitt , Newry

Great site lads pity about some of the shit that so called fans write about there team.I see newry like ourselves 'the blues' havent had the best of starts to the season. Just wanted to see if newry supporters think matches should b played on friday nites like myself. this would generate:
- bigger crowds/support
- better atmosphere at matches
- more money for clubs
- possibility of tv highlights/coverage
Surely this is the way forward for the league as poor crowds are a result of many people like myself either working or playing sport on saturdays. It would also give managers the chance to watch for local talent on saturdays, not that there is much great football played in the carnbane league as the pitches are absolutely crap so the usual long ball system is evident in most teams. good luck for the season -hope newry manage to win at least 3 games and remember linfield for the league again.'C'mon the mighty blues' hello to newry town stalwart and chief PRO Rony 'the badger' McGrath who knows f**k all about football. signed....newry blueman Blueman , Newry

Stephen so you say newry should get a new manager but if you'd realise the season has just started and don't forget we drew with linfield at windsor park. if you believe that we should bring in a new manager tell me who you feel would fit the criteria. And also robbie casey is the worse player in the newry team he is a piece of crapBarry , Newry

Tonight is the night Newry play the Man U and a number of supporters have decided to walk out of the next home match if that dud David McGeough is playing.I have write a list of 21 player's who play for the town and are ten times better than him.SO ALFIE LOST MCGEOUGH ARE LOST THE SUPPORT.Neil , Newry

So how is Paul Antony playing for you? As i know him well he should be a good acquistion for you, Carlisle should not have let him go so easily, as he is a very talented player... Vinny , Newcastle

Newry have played well in the last three matches but what has stood out is that Newry have been down to ten men from the start and this is because David McGEOUGH is playing and why was people like David Irwin were sitting on the bench and David Martin,so sort it out Alfie Neil , Newry

Fair enough! The team have done quite well in the last few games, but the question is, will it last? I don't think so! I have no doubt that the team will win nothing this season and finsh lower than they did last season, unless a new manager takes over!!! Mark my words! Come the end of the season you might agree with me!  Stephen , Newry

Great match against Glenavon and what a great comeback - even with a weakened defence! Even with Gavin Dykes out the Newry defence held strong and I though Lee Anderson fully deserved the 'man of the match' award. Promising start from Neil Mullen. All of Alfies hard work is starting to pay off finally. Well done Alfie and long may it continue! On to another point...Why is McGeogh still getting his place in the starting line up? Sean , Newry

Here, Stephen if we beat Linfield 5-0 at Windsor Park, you still wouldn't be happy. If Alfie were leave now, so would the whole youth structure he has worked hard on. The reality is that no other manager would do the work he is doing at all levels of the club. If you think there will be a new manager at the Town, who should it be then? Paul , Newry

Right, before some so called fans start to criticise Alfie and the club, I think they need to be in possession of certain facts. The reason why the team selection against Cliftonville was they way it was was the because Raymond Byrne, Lee Anderson, Paul Evans, Gary Sliney and Seamus Kane were all injured. Many of them are still injured and this obviously hampers Alfie's improvement of the squad. Also, the eejit who criticised Damien McCorry wants their head examined. The under 18s won their first three matches and were unlucky to lose their fourth. If players want to go to Portadown or Glenavon, let them. They won't get anywhere near the same chances at those clubs with their overpaid stars. Let me make one suggestion: go to the matches, read the reports in the local press and get behind the team. The Truth, Newry

Stephen, that 16 year old you were referring to is actually 17,so theres something you don't know! And Neil made a good debut on Friday night for the senior side and then travelled to Coleraine to represent the Reserves the next day and scored in an impressive three nil victory!! and your complaining? why? Ryan Giggs played for the great Manchester United when he was 17,and he was a joy to watch and subsuquently turned into arguably the best left winger in the world. You also criticised Davy O' Hare, only for some of the crucial saves Davy makes (in the second half against Coleraine on Friday night for example) we would conceed alot more goals and loose more points than we have!! Do you watch the matches? The team are unbeatten in 4 matches, have collected 3 points in the CIS Cup and 5 in the league, I think a 'well dones' in order Stephen, don't you? Open your eyes and try and get behind the team for a change!! I would like to congrulate Neil Mullen for making his d! ebut for the club, and congrulations must go to Alfie and the squad for good performances in recent weeks, keep it up boys!! RMG, Newry

Excellant,Like watching Brazil play all come to by mind on Friday Night and what the f**k was David McGeough playing for.The Coleraine right wing had a field day with his typical defendering. He never track back and if we did not have Fulton we could and should have been in serious problems. Why was Ger Lyttle sitting on the bench or David Irwin both may have right foots but have to be better tan Davy.A number of people deserve a big round of applause Lee Anderson was a rock,Davy O'Hare was a pillar of strength,Robert Casey was the midfield master,Andrew Morrow worked his socks for every body,Jonney Topley covered every blade of grass and Neil Mullen was the most promising player I have seen come out of the town. The crowd was fancastic and lets get more Friday night games and come on the town beat Glenavon and win the CIS cup. Lisa Cunningham, Newry

i was down at the match on friday.it was kinda slow at the start, but when the first goal was scored things began to pick up.it was a good win over all for newry. Ciaran , Newry

People have been saying that we have a good youth policy here but why do so many of are young players leave to join Glenavon and I know two players who have left and are brillant players and these are Stephen Ferris and David Magill,SO IT IS TIME TO TELL THAT  DAMIEN MCCURRY TO GET OUT. Concerned Town Supporter, Newry

I would just like to say well done to the Newry youth teams. I play for the under - 16s and I think if Newry can hold on to the youth players they will have a brillant side in a few years. Once maybe next season is over I think Marty Quinn and Colly McCoy should be promoted to Reserve team managers because they deserved it and have Newry top of the Mid Ulster Under 16 league.  Stephen Cunningham, Newry

So Man U have decided to come to the showgrounds and you say this is a big match,HA,we have already beat them and they want more.It is about time Newry got, some world class team here for a friendly not those duds Man U. P.S. Lets get some of are crap players out for example David McGeough,David Martin and David O'Hare.   Neil, Newry

I see you've signed our (Carlisle) young midfield Paul Anthony on a months loan. Class player, loadsa skill and an excellent passer of the ball. Should do well for you lot - we're angry that our manager Roddy Collins has let him go so easily when he's one of our better young prospects.
BTW How's Shane Reddish doing? Can't believe he's only 30! Looked more like 35 when playing for us back in 1994!!! Lee - Carlisle United Fan , Cockermouth, Cumbria

I just heard Newry are playing a friendly with Manchester United in a friendly at the showgrounds on October 8th!!! Great news, maybe this will pull in a big crowd! Sean, Newry

Another think if Alfie is such a good manager why did he get rid of Straney and keep that load of **** Davy O' Hare and keeping Davy McGeough is bad enough but putting him centre back against Cliftonville was just plain stupid. And Alfie, John Martin plays on the right not the left, as this is where you put him on Saturday against Cliftonville. Here Alfie what the hell was a 16 year old doing on the bench on Saturday. And RMG thinks Alfie is a good manager does this proves Alfie is a good manager. Stephen, Newry

Well, well, well...we're only a month into the new season and already the whinging has started!! Does it ever go away at our club?, unfortunately the answer is quite clearly, no. Newry Town FC has the unfortunate misfortune to have undoubtely the largest amount of crying, moaning and negative so called 'Town Men' amongst their supporters,in the country.stephen for instance seems hell bent on eliminating Alfie Wylie from his position. He stated that Newry were shit last season and claims that Alfie should 'Get out' before he wrecks the team.....was the team not already wrecked before Alfie arrived? I think so Stephen. Mal Donaghy took over the team when it was a respectable 5th in the table and after flirting with relagation the team finished just above the relagation zone.Alfie took over what could be described as a club in crisis considering the sourness of Rices departure still loomed over the Showgrounds. He then went about the process of building a decent team an! d worked hard signing new players and then introducing a new style of play to the team. This had to be done, Donaghey's style of the 'Hoof' system was boring to watch and a bit pridictible after a while. The team reached a cup semi-final, and finished in a respectable mid-table position last season, stuffing Linfield (the champions and run away league leaders) at Windsor Park in the process, and were one very few clubs to have the privlidge to do so.This season like last has started poorly but the negativeness that has been voiced on this web site, at the showgrounds and around the town does not help.Stephen, do you think that the chairman or any member of his board who finically back and work extremely hard for the club are as negative as you? No they like genuine fans are trying to do all they can to get behind Alfie and the team and ensure that success will come sooner rather than later!! Stephen I have five wee words for you 'EMPTY VESSELS MAKE MOST NOISE'. RMG, Newry

Stephen, I defend the team because I think Alfie is working hard and they need our support. If you read the reports you'll see that I also criticise them harshly when they turn in a bad display. The point is that you can't ignore the situation behind the scenes. Do you think Alfie would of got rid of Fitzgerald if he could of afforded to keep him? And who do you think brought in McPhee in the first place? I think that theres a lot of hard work being put in by the management but we'll never be able to compete at the top until we pull in big crowds every week to finance it. And what are the chances of that. In the meantime those of us that do go need to get behind the team and lend our support. Jimmy, Newry

if Anon knew anything about football he'd know a player get's judged on his last match not his last season Herbie, Newry

Why does jimmy keep defending alfie and the team? they were sh**e last season and they are bottom of the league at the moment! if it wasn't for fitzgerld and mcphee newry would have been relagated last season! I do not care what is going on behind the seens, I want to see results on the pitch so Alfie sort it out or get out!!! Stephen, Newry

Well done to Newry on Saturday. We can't expect to beat the team top of the league twice in one week. Also Trevor McMullan was the rock at the back against Portadown, he marked Vinnie Arkins out of the match. AND ALFIE GET OUT NOW BEFORE YOU WRECK THIS TEAM. Stephen Cunningham, Newry

Newry have everything to win the title except a top class forward and it is time for some serious money to leave the club and a proven forward, like Chris Morgan, to join instead.
IT IS TIME TO ASK REAL QUESTIONS, LIKE JOE RICE WHERE IS OUR 1/4 OF MILLION POUNDS ? N and S, Newry

Well done the lads criticising Alfie. You're obviously very knowledgeable when it comes to football. Never mind that Alfie has had to pick up the pieces after Anderson and co left us bankrupt. Never mind he's had to slash the wage bill and sell numerous players. Never mind we've now got a reserve team on the up and proper long term structures in place. Never mind that the team are trying and need our support. No lads, you tubes just keep on moaning in blissful ignorance. Jimmy, Newry

Trevor McMullan we think deserves a bit more credit after his solid performance centre back. Stephen and Nelly, Newry

Who's this Herbie character who thinks John Martin is a bad player. If he knew anything about him he would realise that he was Distillerys player of the year last season. He's hasn't been too bad this season either, although he was poor against Portadown on Saturday. Ah well..Com'on the town!!! Anon, Newry

just a quick line to urge the players and management to keep on giving 100% and eventually the first league win will come. best of luck for the rest of the season. Conor Toal, Taiwan

after young Graham's performance on tuesday against the Port's Alfie still persists on playing a Tube John Martin what's going on Alfie? do you not know a footballer when you see one Herbie, Newry

Is there any danger of the town getting there first leauge win of the season? They did well winning during the week but unless they start putting a few points on the board in the leauge its got to be time for the manager to go!!! hope things get better soon! come on the town!! John, Newry

A word of congratulations to Alfie and the team for the excellent win over Portadown. We've been playing ok without taking the chances so this was due. Let's hope we can keep it up. Jimmy, Newry

Gary Sliney is the nicest man to ever walk the earth!!!!!, thats why i think he should get the player of the year poll :-) Emma1, Belfast

Should be that suprised by Anderson's actions?
Remember the amount of time he spent at Whinger Park! Andy, Lurgan

Instead of watching a foreign country playing football on the TV the newry fans should have been down supporting there team. That shows that they are not real fans of irish league soccer. The national team was away on saturday so thats why the game took place. Maybe if they had of played it on wednesday night they would have got a bigger crowd....3-0 to the ulster men! north downs finest, Ards
Ed. Your English grammar and spelling leaves a lot to be desired, but for the sake of clarity please note that the Republic of Ireland is not a country - it is a State - in the same way as the UK is a State. I'll not even try to explain where Ulster fits in. Describing either these or constituent parts as a nation  really opens the floor for debate - one which FIFA will eventually have to answer I suspect. Maybe if the Irish League had less of your attitude there would be more Newry fans willing to follow !

While I did not witness Trevor Anderson's alleged gestures towards Newry fans after the recent game against Ards I did see him leave the pitch without shaking Alfie Wylie's hand. Win, lose or draw, there are certain standards of behaviour expected. Shame on Mr Anderson. Whatever gripes he has with Newry Town, these have absolutely nothing to do with Alfie Wylie. What odds an apology? Secondly, why would Ards not agree to the game being played on the Friday night? Their refusal cost Newry a lot of money. Isn't it ironic that a very short time ago Ards were relying on the goodness of others to keep them in football. They get a chance to do someone a favour and refuse. Long runs the fox Mr Anderson Anon

Well just home from spending the summer in the USA and its good to see Newry playing well. Also its good to see that we have got Paul Evans back which will certainly make me wanna come to the match Good luck Newry Town for this season. We can show them all that we havent gone away you know........... Jennifer McD, Rostrevor

Brilliant start to the season - holding the champions at Windsor Park and drawing with Glenavon at the Showgrounds, Alfie Wylie has put together a brilliant squad of players...Well done Alfie! C'mon the town! Sean, Newry

Made it down to the friendly with Drogheda the other night. The Town won 2-0 with Dickson scoring them both. Loads of new faces and plenty of others have fled the ship. The winger Martin (formerly of Distillery) looked particularly sharp. The new stand is taking shape and looks really impressive. Lets hope we can get plenty of bodies to fill it for the new season and give Alfie and co some well deserved support. Jimmy, Newry

Newry are playing Linfield next Saturday in the first game of the new season, there's a bus travelling to it for the town supporters at 1:30 at the Stone bridge so get your ass down to it. It's only 5 quid. For once lets have a decent crowd at an away game. C'mon the Town!! Sean, Newry

Great to see the town winning a few games in Scotland and its good to see Mark Dickson starting to score a few as well!! Its lookin good for the new season..C'mon the town! Sean, Newry

just a quick note to say how impressed i am with your site. it is a great reference point for the club. hopefully there will be plenty to cheer about next season if we get a decent striker!!! Paul, Belfast

I would like to point out to 'Anon, Newry' that Alfie Wylie has not spent money on buying any players as most have come on loan or on free transfers. Alfie knows more than anybody that Newry need a consistent goalscorer, but its one thing knowing and another actually getting one. Newry hardly have money to burn and what you are asking for is a top class goalscorer who will play for little money. That's the problem facing Alfie at the moment. And another thing, since when did you ever hear of a football club where it was the manager who 'got their cheque book out', that's the job of the chairman and he can only do that if the people of Newry get behind the team and support the various fund raising events organised by people who have the long term health of Newry Town at heart. Alfie is probably the hardest working manager in the Irish League and as well as trying to sign players for the first team, he is also investing a lot of time and energy in creating a good youth system at the Showground. Therefore he deserves our support, and not ill judged criticism. Paul McConville, Newry

Alfie Wylie needs to buy a decent striker! It's alright buying Ballymena rejects. John Joe and Dickson aren't going to do the job up front, are they? Stop wasting money on defenders we don't need and buy a striker! McPhee scored nearly scored all our goals last season and the ones he didn't score Dean Fitzgerald did, but neither of them are here this season to do so. COME ON ALFIE GET YOUR CHECK BOOK OUT! Anon, Newry

Just wanted to wish Gary McPhee all the best for his recovery after that terrible accident. It's such a pity as he seemed to be on the verge of a good deal. Thanks for all the entertainment you gave us at the Town last season and all the best for the future. Jimmy, Newry

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all our fans that although the current season has just finished, it is vital that everyone at the club including us the fans starts NOW, to raise funds to ensure that the club is successful next season. Players as we all know to well, don't come cheap, the ludicrous sums of money they demand for wages and signing on fees is a burden on clubs like ourselves. However the money to fund new players should not always be expected to come from the pockets of the clubs generous benefactors. Fans should be adopting and carrying out fund raising activities during the close season to aid the board with the financial burden of running the club. Sadly, it has been common practice over the years for Newry Town supporters to switch off and react negatively to issues regarding the financial situation at the club. These fans expect the usual hand full of dedicated supporters/fund raisers to continue with their weekly tasks of selling lotto's etc... with out these people the club would undoubtedly be in a much more unhealthy situation. I would therefore call upon the club to hold such an evening where interested fans could meet and discuss fund raising activities, and air views and new ideas. I believe, (and I'm not alone with this view), that if initiatives like these were implemented then the club would be in a better position next season to challenge for honours than they were in this season. I would also like to point out a sad but true fact to Fred. If Fred you presented an 8 year old Newry child with a Newry Town Easter Egg, he would basically look at you as if you had two heads or do what his father would probably do and start laughing. And fred if you think that selling a few easter eggs at Easter is going to revive the fortunes of the club then you mustn't be too far off the grand old age of 8 yourself. However if you do have any better ideas (excluding Newry Town FC After Shave and Car mats etc...) then its people like you that I have been talking about previously that the club needs. May I take this opportunity and congratulate the club on finishing 6th in the league and for giving me many happy memories in the process, roll on August!! Slan, The Badger, Newry

why is it that there is no Newry Town replica shirts or scarves, baseball caps, t-shirts etc., in any of the sports shops here in our own home town? And over Easter, all I seen was Easter eggs of Man. Utd, Arsenal, Glasgow Celtic and the like. Why was there none of Newry Town?? Surely the club's directors can market and advertise the club and team better than this, especially in our own home town!?!  All the best. Fred, Newry

Visit my website at www.myfootballteasers.8m.com. On it I have links to the Newry website, football facts, pictures, guest book and much more! Sean, Newry

I have just heard a rumour that next season the sides for the home supporters and the away supporters will be switched, I really hope it's not true because the new stand is being built and there's the knew shop as well on the homeside, so we will be kicked over to the away side with no shop and a wooden stand to sit in. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! Sean, Newry

Please bring the bus back for the away matches, Alf and the team need as much support as they can get.C'MON THE TOWN!!!!!

It's good to see Paul Straney back after a long injury, good to see him getting some good performances, hope he'll be fit and ready to be the first team goaly for next season Gavin Dykes is an amazing player but can Newry hold on to him for next season, hope so! Why is everyone talking about the relegation dog fight when Newry are closer to getting a place in Europe, if the Town win their next few games they could be playing in the intertoto cup yet!! Sean, Newry

Come On The Glens. Bet you're dreading your visit tomorrow to Wonderful East Belfast!

I DON'T SEEM TO THINK THAT ITS FAIR THAT THERE IS NO BUS TO THE AWAY MATCHES. JUST BECAUSE ONE PERSON MISBEHAVED AND MESSED UP EVERYBODYS CHANCES. THE TOWN NEED OUR SUPPORT AT THE AWAY MATCHES MORE THAN ANYTHING.PLEASE RUN A BUS AND BAR THE CULPRIT. THE CRAIC WAS GOOD ON THE BUS AND IT WAS A DAY OUT BETTER THAN WATCHIN GRANDTAND CRICKET AT HOME. SO COME ON RUN A BUS FOR THE LOYAL SUPPORTERS. C'MON THE TOWN
Great site.c'mon the town theres always next season there's still a few games left yet we'll move up over the ports.ig game 2nite against the crues. cmon newry Ally , Newry

Improve the ground facilities  KARL MURPHY, Rostrevor

I have to agree with Sean Mc Kevitt about the so called 'critics' who constantly wear long frowns and are quick to ridicule the players, management and directors at the club when things are not going so well. They never applaud good play or moves and passes.. why? Is it because they haven't a clue about football? seriously the question has to be asked. I know that I'm not the only supporter to have noticed these puppets they have also come to the attention of other fans i.e. Sean Mc Kevitt. It has to be said that the fans who traveled to Shamrock Park for the Irish Cup replay were excellent. They applauded and cheered the team for the whole 90 minutes. Why can this not be the case at the Showgrounds??? Does these people not notice the reception that teams like Linfield and Glentoran receive when then run out at the Showgrounds. It's obviously noticed and appreciated by their players as they turn and acknowledge the fans.T hese fans also applaud and encourage good football ! and show their gratitude when a player is substituted, whether or not he is coming on or off!! These clubs success has undoubtedly in some way been achieved by the commitment and support from the supporters. I acknowledge that some times then MUST be critcism but there must also be praise and unfortunately at our club critcism over shadows praise. Maybe instead of opening the new Family Enclosure, which I must congratulate Oliver and the Board for doing a fantastic job on, the club should have opened a Moaners Enclosure, where all the 'Critics' could go and moan among them selves and not annoy genuine supporters like myself and others by having to listen to their constant worthless jibes....but would there be enough room in the away stand for them all??? I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone at the club for all their hard work throughout the year, in ensuring that Newry Town FC will be a healthy football club in the coming years, and with one of the finest grounds! in the country as a base. Ronan McGrath, Newry

Buy a new winger. Get Andy Boyd out of the showgrounds as he is a letterbox co*******r Raymond McDonald, Killowen

Hello everybody. This is Jimmy of the match reports and not the one who writes on this forum. How many Jimmys can there be? Anyway, just want to agree with Sean that its support the team needs and not abuse. Most people seem to catch on. Dont know when we'll play again with the foot and mouth. Maybe they could move the games to the Odyssey (spelling?) it seems to be ok!!!!! Jimmy, Newry

There's a small minority of the supporters who keep giving abuse Alf and the rest of the team so why don't the f**king so called supporters go and support someone else
Gary McPhee is one of the best players the town has ever had and I'd just like to wish him all the best for the future!!! Plus I hope the town can lift themselves for their Coca Cola Cup tie with Linfield on Monday night.5TH March 01. Sean Mckevitt, Newry Town

I don't know where McCrystal is, But does anyone really care???? We my not have Won the last few matches but the defence doesnt look any worse without him!!!! Come on lads put a few wins together and give us a exciting end to a dull season! Jimmy, Newry

Wait till I tell ya the craic. We (University of Abertay Dundee) have just won the British Universities Championship: We go to Sligo next week to play in the Trench cup: Here is a wee summary of the weekend (Of course we'll have match reports, photos, stories an all that on the http://dbs.tay.ac.uk/gaelicfootball/ web site asap). Francie McCabe, Newry

i'm just wondering where is mccrystal?? he is a good player. i know many mightn't agree but he has talent!!!!. yea he did have a bad start! but he has shown alot of promise.he can only improve with experience. he wasn't over in leeds for nothin!!!!!. with him and dykes nothin will pass. Paul, Newry

Well, where were all the loyal Town supporters on Saturday? What a poor crowd for a big cup game. The usuals were all there as they always but we reallt should be getting more than saturday. To the wee gingerbap behind the goals. Appreciate your support and singing but anymore of that Munich stuff and you can expect a slap. Jimmy, Newry

Improved effort from the Town on Saturday although our shortcomings were all too evident. Memo to Mickey Keenan, you've been in the game long enough to expect plenty of heckling when you continally drop the ball. Therefore your antics after the equaliser were particularly amusing. You've probably seen Cantona give it to the crowd after chipping the keeper but I think a man of your age should know better. If you have to act the big man the understated approach works best, trust me. A little wink would of had much more effect. Mind you trying to explain the art of understatement to a man who still sports a perm means I'm probably onto a loser. Eric, Newry

After witnessing the mid ulster cup deafeat, I am very dissapointed that as a team we could not keep the ball for more than one or two passes!!! All I ever see happening is the defence thumping high balls up to Mcphee too flick on! I do not know how others feel about this but i think that is time we saw the town produce a good game of football, where the ball is played on the floor and not in the air all the time. Trevor, Newry

I was just wondering if anyone else thought what I'm about t write. I think that when Newry take a corner kick, Robbie Casey's presence should be felt in the heart of the goal mouth and that someone else like Pat O' Tool Should take the corners. It worked at Omagh the other night and would probably work again if Alfy Wille gave it half a chance. If anyone else agrees with it keep writing in to the site. By the way I thought we were very unfortunate to draw with Coleraine on saturday ,we should of at least bagged "TWO" in the second and numerous others in the first. Anyway ONE point is better than NONE!!!!! Paul, Newry

Did anyone else see Mark Rutherford for Bohs against Rovers in the 6-4? What a player he can be when he's trying and a far cry from some of his later performances for the Town. Still, thanks for the good days and a pity we didn't see him for longer on form (before Doherty intervened). Anyway, the reward of a home draw in the cup v the Ports. Hopefully we'll get a big crowd. But what ever happened the banners that the young lads used to put up behind the goals? Can't we get them back to take the bad look off the place? Jimmy

Well, Just like to mention that I am very impressed with the standard of comments being constructed within the web. Also to speak about the youth in Dundalk. Having played in Dundalk I know there are really talented footballers there and if you can get youths to play excellent football whilst paying (or not) them cheap ass labour (obviously agreed on both parties) and sell them on in a couple of year (if applicable) then why not import youth from Dundalk? They're better than the majority of town youths (town youths getting a chance that is - not the past & current youths 'who they know' scenario - apart from a few). Anyway, I'd also like to mention something else but I've forgot what twas about.? Francie

I take your point about being unbiased in bringing the news. Fair point. Just don't start helping out Linfield whatever you do! They get enough help from the IFA. What's anyone's views on the plight of the Irish League that's doing the rounds at the moment. I feel that the media needs to get off their arses and the support the league. The talent's there but nobody wants to promote the game over here which leads to a lack of interest from the general public. A Match of the Day type programme would be a good idea. If RTE can do it with the atrocious League of Ireland there's no reason why it can't happen up here. Keep up the good work. GMC, Warrenpoint
Ed. I agree with you about a Match of the Day programme - I lived in Wales for a while and they had a programme and some live games for the League of Wales- If they can do it why can't we ! Also that Fans Forum thing that is doing the rounds - how come all the venues are in Unionist areas - surely the Irish League should be reaching out to clubs like Cliftonvile and Newry with predominantly Nationalist support.

Whilst I have every sympathy with the plight regarding Ards ground,I cannot believe you have a link to sign their petition!Whilst a certain Ards board member (I think we both know who he is) did so much in his time at the Showgrounds to raise the profile of our club,he also was only here for his own gain (financial or otherwise).I don't feel it's right to support something he is involved in.However it's your website and a very good one it is too.On to more important matters such as the Limavady Irish cup match on Saturday.A match we should win after a battling display against Cliftonville. It'll be interesting to see how many of those "true" Town fans will be there.I will, but will YOU?Finally, good luck yo "Rico."At least we're getting a fee for him.Blame that tramp Lee Docherty for ruining his career.See you all on Saturday,if you actually decide to go. GMC-Proper Town Fan. , Warrenpoint
Ed. I try to be a little unbiased in bringing the news, and if that means doing a favour for the editor of the Ards website then so be it - he would do it for me!

Is it true you are selling all our best players because you cant afford to keep them on. And why are you signing all these young lads from dundalk...is this a set up you have with Dundalk FC......nurture their players and then sell them back to them....Pathetic Shane, Newry

YET AGAIN TWO COMPLETELY S**T TIES, IN THIS SEASONS COCA COLA CUP,AND THE SHIELD,BOTH AWAY,BOTH S**T TEAMS AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF NO BUS,BECAUSE OF ONE WEE S**T HEAD AND HIS F**KED UP MIND.ANYWAY AT LEAST THEIR'S CLIFTIONVILE AT HOME TO LOOK FOWARD TO ON SATURDAY,SO WHY NOT GET OUT AND SUPPORT OUR LOCAL TEAM. Paul, Newry

ID LIKE TOO KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS YOUNG BUCKO THAT CALLS HIMSELF "foz" .who is the fella from barcroft that play's for a loyalist team. Please tell me as i find this very hard to believe, and let me tell you something else you'll never find an orange hall in BARCROFT so next time, get your facts right before you spread sh** about barcroft.(O BY THE WAY I SAW HOW ROBBED CURLEY'S 3 LITTER OF DING.) Paul, Newry

new - years day game against the glens was an excellent game, with NEWRY dominating in many periods in both the first and second half.although if old faithfull(GARY Mc PHEE) was there we probably would have won,ANYWAY it just goes to show how much we need him and it is good to see him staying with us for a while.Fair play to you GARY. Paul, Newry

Saturday's game at Shamrock park was definitely not one of our better games,(hence the scoreline) although we were beat 4:0 town kepper Davy O'Hare played an outstanding game, infact only for Davy we would have left Shamrock park ,not with 4 scored against us but probably 7or8.Anyway next week we meet cliftonville at home, and hopefully we can improve on our two all draw from the last time we meet up in Solitude.O DAN IF YOU READ THIS:PUT DA BUS BACK ON !!!!!!! PLEASE Paul, Newry

This is a message for Dean Fitzgerald, Its your little cousion Clare here drop me a mail soon it would be nice to see ya. Brendan gave me your website addresse but dont think its right drop it to me or acces my website @ http://clarey2k.homestead.com/untitiled1.html/ See ya Keep in touch, Clare Boyne, Dublin
great site - keep up the good work Bob Stronge, Belfast
Well i didn't see the game to-day against Ballymena but i heard they were brilliant (for once). Spackmann is s**t. GO ON THE TOWN!!!!!! they're not going down. Davie, Omeath

Its good to see someone else supports the idea of Friday night games. I was reading the Newry Reporter this week and read that Polaris also supports this idea. So why doesn't the Irish League do something about it?? Newry Town should be pressurising and organising more matches for Friday nights!
Although it is good to hear that meetings have been organised to explain about where the funds for development of the ground have went - a bit more transparency and statements to the local press would explain issues to non-season ticket holders Mr McKnight! The Nyuck, Newry

Reply from Andrew ,Ards FC on the selling of Castlereagh Park:
One thing, Ards council can't be blamed. They never said they would be buy the ground back, they could never justify spending £3m of ratepayers money. That all came from people like Norman Carmichael, who has in the last few years tried to get on the board of nearly every club in the league, and Jack Irwin, a man who now wants to bring the club down. If the club had been placed in administration sooner, we would probably still have Castlereagh Park. If the last board had not signed a bad contract, we would be building a new ground by now. If Morrisons had been a bit more honourable, we would have money in the bank and our future would be secured. As it is Ards FC remains very much in doubt. Its a constant struggle to keep it going and a minor miracle that it has been done for so long. There are people to blame Jonny, but the council isn't one of the them. Thanks for the support Andrew Andrew, Ards FC

That was poor play againist Glentoran, ten minutes to hold out but Glentoran somehow got THREE Goals in those ten minutes. There were fans dissapointed and that will not help support. Liam, Newry

Hello paul de krugger, i saw you brother last week on tv. Freddie, i suppose you have heard it all before. well i know your mate Mark Feehan and he did play for Newry in and around 1988/89. He wasnt a bad player and played local junior football for the most of his life. he was a brilliant youth player and in fact played 2 games for N. Ireland youth team. u-18. 'not a lot of people know that'. when he was with Portadown. mark only started playing back in newry after he came back from Australia and in fact was really only playing local football for 1 year when Nerwy signed him. he nearly signed for Portadown that night when he played for newry seconds against Portadown but Matt Bradley nipped Ronnie McFaul to the post. apart from the team that played in the inter toto cup in Europe a few seasons ago, that Newry Town team that Mark Feehan played in were probably the next best Newry team ever. Tommy Grey, ollie RALPH, HARRY Fay,THE HAWKINS, WILLIE CRAWLEY and not to forget the maestro MATT BRADLEY, Mark left for Australia again and i beleive he done quite well there playing with the likes of Johnny Corvan. Paul ask him what irish player scored against the national league winners of two different leagues/countries in 2 consecutive seasons. he will know the answer to that.I THINK mARK MADE THE WRONG DECISION to play for newry and should have went to Portadown, were they would have made him into a better player like Magee and Cunningham. what a story, but fair play to you, you made contact from australia so you deserved a reply. tell you what i could tell you some really good stories about your mate, ask him about the INTER VILLAGE FIRM, Armagh are the no 1 county in Ulster at the moment and probably ireland, so he is right there, mon the town, mon armagh and Mon the Brook and there is only one 'B.......' in Bessbrook, united, The Wanderers live on,, we will be back. IVF, Ireland

Newry 4 Portadown 3 Super win on Friday night; top quality entertainment and a well deserved win. This young team deserves our support so get out and give it to them Jimmy, Newry

Well all, Came up with a brilliant and simple idea. Somebody help jonny with the site and do match reports so viewers all over the world (i.e. me/Dundee) can see what the criac is every game so we (supporters all over the world can give feedback). I'm hoping to see positive feedback on the disscusion board from the above.......... for not only the whinngers, myself, and the club's sake, but for people/supporters all over the world. Good luck with the next match by the way lads. Hope Donegan is given a good opportunity as he's a young lad with football in him (my view). Bye, franciemccabe@hotmail.com, Dundee
Ed. Great idea Francis as updating this site is sometimes hard given my responsibilities (i.e. young family, work, masters course) Anyone who wants to do a match report is more than welcome. Just email or Fax the report to me and I'll add it to the site.

AT THIS PRESENT TIME I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE CLUBS PERFORMANCE.WHY DOES THE TOWN SIGN PLAYERS IF THEY ARE NOT GOING TO PLAY THEM OR EVEN HAVE THEM ON THE SIDE LINE.THE MANAGER OF THE CLUB NEEDS TO THINK LONG AND HARD ABOUT WHAT PLAYERS HE HAS SIGNED FOR THE SEASON AND WHETHER HE IS GOING TO USE THESE PLAYERS OR NOT.HELL NEED TO BE QUICK OF THE MARK IF THE CLUB ARE TO STAY UP THIS SEASON. MANY THANKS Joanne, Newry

I am trying to contact an old mate. Does anyone know the email address for the "Newry reporter". thought I might see if they would put an ad in the paper for me. Great to see all your comments on your team. All I can say is that the All Blacks WILL beat France tomorrow Trevor Preston, New Zealand

Great win at the Glens on Wednesday. The second leg will still be tough, especially given their record at the Showgrounds. If we get a big crowd in to cheer the boys on and at least match the away support numbers then who knows. But maybe that's asking too much. Hope not. Jimmy, Newry

By the reports i have read, Saturdays performance was brutal. Every team has an off day now and again and after winning four in a row, it is a bit much to start slagging the team off too much. Good luck Newry in this weeks games.
P.s. Congratulations to Newry Mitchels on their recent promotion - and before any of the showgrounds yaps start complaining that this site is only for items related to ntfc - shut up! - a lot of the mitchels boys are standing at the games in the rain every saturday! Conor, Taiwan

Despite my recent optimism I have to say that the town were awful on Saturday. I hope they bounce back well but it doesn't bode well for the 3 big away games in a week. Having said that, if that few people turn up to support a team that's just won 4 in a row perhaps you can see why. I suppose it's easier to slag the team off from the comfort of your computer than get out in the rain to cheer them on. Jimmy, Newry

Lads your perfromance against Omagh suited the weather....S***e. Back to your oldselves???? Defence was brutal. Left back was pathetic...was that Mc Geough...thought he could do better and Mc Crystal go home before we send you hme you bloody plonker. Come on the town!  Dominic, Newry

i support Glenavon, well done McPhee, excellent player Anon

well done newry, it finally seems that its turning around. from reading the match reports, this guy McPhee seems like a class act. keep up the good work! Conor, Taiwan

In reply to PAUL DE KRUGER in MELBOURNE Yes Mark Feehan did play for Newry in the MID EIGHTIES but he was far from great. Also ask him about the great "BESSBROOK UNITED" AND "DOWN2 teams Anon

well, just when it looked like we would throw it away, yet again, against the crues, up pops McPhee with a winner. Fairly obvious statement, but Alfie, keep him for as long as you can. A great week all in all and reassuring that the confidence seems to be growing. We're definitely as good as or better than the majority of teams in the league (as I said after the cliftonville match which we could just as easily have won) and lets hope we can prove it from now on. well done the boys. Jimmy, Newry

I would safely say that most of the comments sent to this web site are submitted by an ever increasing amount of Newry people who 1.) know f*** all about Irish League Football 2.) know f*** all about Newry Town FC ; think they do ;and spread s*** stories to miserable b******s around the town who would'nt part with a fiver to watch their home town team. 3.) continually criticise Colman Rooney, Eric Wilson,Trevor Warde,Patsy Heaney, Jim O' Brien and of course Joe Rice who have and still do work very hard and pump serious amounts of money into the club without return. I would ask these people:
Why log on to this web site? Any genuine Newry Town fan like myself dose'nt give a fiddlers f*** what you have to say because its always the same sh**e:"Tri Colours....." What has it got to do with football? "Newry Town are'nt playing local lads"..... Most local do get a chance, the reality is most of them are'nt good enough for Irish leage football. There is a world of difference between Carabane League football and Irish league football. So "know Alls" next time your about to blacken Newry Town Football Club's name think about its your home town club, they don,t need criticism they need support. Why don't you come down and watch a match some time it only costs the price of a box of fags or 2 pints. Wise up,shut up and grow up! Genuine Newry Town FC Supporter

terrible start to the season something needs to be done quickly - the nyuck raised a very good point about the money from the united game - how do we expect to attract anybody to the showgrounds with the facilities we have - only seats for the away fans - what a joke - but i think the nyuck and everybody else knows what happened to the money - it is now in the pockets of another irish league club - as for coleman and alfie - a second rate team will always be so with second rate players. Conor, Taiwan

Half a dozen games into the new season and a season ticket isn't worth the paper it's on. Alfie was installed as manager in the summer. He has had several pre-season friendlies to get his act together plus EIGHT league games and a Nationwide cup match, yet he still doesn't know who his team is, or indeed, in some cases, where they should be playing.(Reddish is a midfielder)(allegedly). What we have is:
P W D L F A PTS
8 1 1 6 7 16 4 16
goals conceeded is the worst in the league. Lets not get excited about beating Armagh ,they are after all a mid-bottom first division side who were unlucky on the night, hit the woodwork twice, and were away from home. They were also the only team who played any football. It was a big step up from Loughgall Alfie but it hasn't worked. Maybe next year, don't even think of cups,it's like the Terry Nicholson days again - C**P. Mr Impatient, Newry

I live in Australia and am friends with a bloke called Mark Feehan. He tells me he played for Newry Town in the Irish Premier League and he was a great player. Can somebody confirm for me that he did. He also says that the best Gaelic footy team in Ireland is Arma. Because I know Mark I look for Newry Town's results every Monday morning here in Melbourne. Does anybody know him and did he play for Newry. Paul De Kruger, Melbourne

I agree with that last ANON fan...Alfie what are ya at? You have good players if youd only use them. i didnt know his name before ANON's message but i presume Mc Crystal{by his description of a donkey) is the red head centre half. He is pathetic and you should send him back packing to dundalk where he came from!! The other Dundalk lad David Mc Geough should be on the left or up front..prehaps the striker we need Alfie and the rest of ya's get your act together before it goes beyond repair. Shane, Newry

wylie by name only ! but not cute enough to take on Coyle,McFaul,Jeffries,Stitt etc Anon

I would like to see more of Darragh Maguire cause he is a class player. Angel, Dublin

At last a win, albeit in the cup. It's just not happening for us at the moment although I for one (and I must have been the only one judging by the comments around me) thought we deserved something against the Reds. Still, goals win matches. I do think we'll come good with the players we have and hopefully a decent striker soon. Who is this McPhee character? Anyway, congrats to the editor as this site gets better and better with such regular updating. Pity the same can't be said for our central defence (sic). Jimmy, Newry
Ed. It would get better and better with a bit of help from the club, or sponsorship. I can only dream.

Alfie what to f**k are you at? McMullan is about to collect his pension and McCrystal is slow as a donkey. Why not give Seamy Kane are Pat O Hare a run out as they both have been performing well in the reserves. As for Dixon he blows hot and cold and Larkin is just not his oldself, why not put him back on the wing. And why will he not give John Joe a go as he has scored 4 goals in his last 2 games. Coleman(afraid to spend his money)Rooney Anon

What I wanna know is where did all the money from the Man Utd match and the Inter Toto matches go. We were told it was for a new stand and we paid high prices particularly for that Man Utd farce. Its time someone at that club started communicating with the supporters. Nyuck, Newry

Newry are playing very bad at the moment and would need to start playing better if they want more support. Chris, Newry

Congratulations on a great site, a credit to Newry Town F.C.
As a Linfield supporter since 1963, I would whole heartedly support the anti-secterian stance taken by your club, this is a serious problem created by mindless idiots with no thought for the sport or those who support it, you'll agree that the local game has enough hurdles without secterianism.
The inclusion of a "Guest Book" in a football club web site is not always a good idea, as it gives the above mentioned idiots a platform to air their unrequired views.
Anyhow all the best, best wishes to Newry Town (except aganist Linfield of course) for the new season. Yours etc
Andrew C. Hynds
Ed. I agree with some of what you have said but in the spirit of the Internet feel that everyone should have their say, even if it is contrary to my beliefs. Open discussion and reasoned argument is better than violence, and without freedom of speech the extreme become frustrated and angry.
Also this site is not a credit to Newry Town FC as I run it of my own bat with no help from the club !

Its great to see the Town have a decent website. Im just back from the states after 4 years and i was just wondering about all these new lads. anyone tell me about Mc Geough? Conner Jameson, Newry

YO ! has anyone seen the new banners for the new season? especially that class one with a tri-colour on it. hopefully we can beat the "scum" (linfield) on tuesday and give the cop's & the linfield fans a bit of good old secterianism. good luck on tuesday lads. Heatley, Newry

Hello my name is Pat MyTool. Please ask Deano to come and fix up my hair. I am in need of a good hairstyle. help me pleeeeeeeeeeasee!!!! Pat MyTool, Newry

I noticed a recent comment on this page regarding Seamus Kane playing for Carrickcruppen. How could he play when he has been injured as last 5 months. You are saying he is a coward but you are the yellow bastard who is afraid to leave your name. By the way a Carrickcruppen supporters club. I have been to every match this year and there doesn't seem to be a big attendance of supporters there. But please pass on information through this site how to join as I guess it needs members quickly. And don't forget to leave your name or are you as big a yellow b*****d as I think you are. Newry and cruppen supporter. Anon

sh*t against glens. back to normal - sh*t result and no crowd. when is rutherford and soupie back. start getting behind the team. Casey sccored a class penalty. BF, An tIur

Nice stuffing of the Crues on Saturday. They were owed it. Maybe Alfie knows what he's about. Now lets see a big crowd get behind the new team on Saturday (as if) Eric, Newry

Good start to the new season, for ye. Finally have net access (after moving here from Colorado) to keep up with goings on at the Showgrounds, hoping for much better success this season. How do you think you'll do this season, upper table finish possible? James Murtha, LA, USA

thank f**k gilgoon (gunn) has left he was sh*t and f**k you mclean. how many more players are gonna run about after joe and trevor where ever they go. next year looks good. c'mon the town and kick the sh*t outa the crues. and sheamy kane's a women. He won't play for carrickcruppen cause his ma says he's not allowed. C.S.C. (cruppen supporters club)

I have just read through the review of last season by "the Nyuck" and was very impressed by the majority of what they had to say. His comments regarding friday night football were spot on and should be listened to. However, the last few lines about how it's only a matter of time before the club goes into liquidation and we should all support Newry Celtic are the biggest load of bollocks I have ever had the misfortune to read in my entire life! What he is basically saying is that we should become a secterian club like those gypsies from the blue side of Belfast. Do we really want to be seen in the same light as Linfield/IFA. Everything else he had to say was 100% spot on apart from Deano being a local player! See you at Seaview on August 12th and not at Shamrock Park Portadown as the editor stated. Anon, Warrenpoint
Ed. Apologies about the fixture - I was misinformed

To that tube that said Peter Gilgoat (gunn) is one of the most promising and up and coming player, catch a grip how many times did you see him playing for Newry last year. Are you blind. He is shit and thank f**k he is not here now. Another thing I've been to a few of the pre season friendly's and i would like too say David Nesbitt f**k off back too Loughgall because you are the worst striker(don't know whether to call him a striker) ever to pull on a Newry jersey. Come on Aflie and stick with John Joe and Mark Dixon up front. He seems a good player. Anon

i wish the 2 leagues north and south would join up maybe a ten team division just think what fun we could have with the loyalist scum down in cork city home to the most supported team through out ireland north and south weed kill the lot of ye on and off the pitch
No name left - obviously a Cork muck savage !

Hey there, just writing in reply to Liams comment on peter gilgunn, Its quite obvious you know f...k all about football! Peter gilgunn is one of the most talented young players i have ever seen and given half a chance he could prove that, he has alot of potential and got a bum deal whilst playing for crusaders, who prefere to let their young players sit on the bench and waste their talent.
Keiran, Downpatrick

well what a surprise to see a face from the past,Coley Rooney.Congratulations on being appointed as club chairman.Say hello to all the old crew ,Patsy etc.Our Gerard is coming out this year so maybe i,ll get back to see a match next year.
Take care and God Bless Pat Mc Avoy, Winnipeg

newry need to sign a couple of good experienced players for next season, dean fitzgerald has proved what talent there is in the south. he has been a real find for us, and i think will prosper next season with a couple of more decent guys in the team. Gerry Kiernan, Dublin

Does anyone there know Gavin Mynes, originally from Pound Street in Newry. I've lost contact and have been trying to get in touch for years. My only means of doing so is via e-mail, so if anyone can help I would be very grateful. Thanks. This eejit didn't leave his name or email!

Liam, Jonny Mac like all the good players (excluding Rutherford, Kane and Maguire) have all left the Town. I'm playing with Marcus, Raymey Woods and Jam Mc Cormack in a Dundalk league at the minute. I'd just like to say that I hope Newry can improve performances and league postion in the coming year. franciemccabe@hotmail.com

DENNIS LARKIN FOR NEWRY TOWN MANAGER Loftus Larkin

So farewell Mal, you didn't stay long. Building for the future apparently as the defeats piled up. I suppose you did give the young fellas a chance and brought home the Mid Ulster Cup (ahem). So who's next? There's a half (quarter?) decent squad to build on unless what's left do one and leave like all the rest. A bit of stability though would be a help. Oh and if we need a new keeper I hear that Bosnich fella is available on a free. Eric, Newry

Well all, I'm back in the town! Hopefully yawn boy Mal will be sorting out the youth u.18's and have plenty more youth about the town on playing for N.I. It's good and sad in a way that he departed. Oh, I heard that yawn bottle of cider was taken by Chris (below).
slan, Francie!    ed. I had to edit your comments a little Francie I didn't want to get in trouble!

Come on the Town!!!! Get the drink in !!!! We'll b doing some celebrating next season!!!!! Chris, Newry

Hello Newry Town !! Here is a Fan of Duisburg and Newry Town F.C.! I have a problem, I want a Trikot of Newry in blue and white Stripes. Can you send me any of this in L or xl ? Ed. I'd like to offer a service of jersey sales etc especially as it would be a source of income for this site but organisation and enthusiasm at the club is lacking!

I was just wondering could anyone help me out with an incident that happened last Saturday night in the town. It happened on Sugar Island at around 3.30am. I placed my bottle of cider beside the cenotaph and proceeded to walk behind the town hall to urinate. When I was finished I walked back only to discover, to my amazement might I add, that my cider had been robbed!!!(it was also half full). I contacted the RUC immediateley and they admitted that there was an increase in this sort of incident around the town in recent weeks but as usual, said there was nothing they could do about it. Anyone with any information about the whereabouts of my cider(Olde English, 3 litre) or who the culprit might be I would be grateful if you could confidentially pass it on to me. I feel if we dont try and stamp this sort of activity out now, it may spiral out of control and then where will we be? (If you have been a victim of this sort of crime please feel free to contact me as well)
Curley Kane, Sugar Island Saturday Nights

Well lads, I've got the towns site added to my/our site in my personal links section. I'll be home this day week, so I'm hoping to see ya's all. All the best , Francie

Newry Town have really gone to the dogs. They are going to have to do something pretty spectacular to get me and the rest of the crowds to come back and start pumping some money back into the club. Fair play to you for keeping this site up to date, it is the best asset that "company", "club"??? has! Stiofan, An tIur

Well all, I was home there for a week and I am unhappy to say that Killeavey could not field a team last Sat 22/04/00. I think it was suppose to be agianst Damolly. + I was dying for a game of soccer too. Anyway, Abertay University (our Uni) Gaelic team keeps on winning. We have just won a national touranment (7 a side like)in Stirling there on Sat.
Newry's looking well. Soo many changes inside five months. All the town has to do now is eventually get the youth team up and running like the successful Linfeild outfit.
Oh, and "Ronaldo" I was doing a bitta research on ya. Nobody seems to know you, even some of your so called team mates. Ya weren't telling a 'wee' lie by any chance that you even play football?!?
Bye, franciemccabe_gaa@yahoo.co.uk

Seamus has had an excellent first season. This camlough lad is certainly one for the future.
Declan Campbell, Milton Keynes, England

I have voted deano as he is a good strong player no player is better than him in the newry team i know yous have not done too well this season but good luck next season ps.well done on winning the mid ulster cup Liam, Newry

Well folks, silverware at the Showgrounds again!!!!!! I did find the ground and there was a fair enough Newry turn out to see us lift the Mid Ulster Cup. Okay, so we didn't play that well and only won 1-0 against Banbridge but it's a while since we even won this cup so I for one am delighted. It's obvious we need some of our injured players back for next season but this was a start. Nice trophy by the way. Eric, Newry

Good luck in the cup final because after Saturday's performance you need it. Anon

After Saturday did we speak too soon?
Anyone know directions to the ground for Thursday's cup final?
Eric, Newry

Glad to see Newry picking up the pace and points on the trot.  Keeping the faith and hoping for better days ahead here in the states James Murtha, Boulder,Colorado

Well lads,
Good stuff  ed, I've John Joes name chosen for player of the year via form.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear the town are doing well.  The togetherness is creeping in as it was when we won the first division title.Don't know that manager may have a few tricks up his sleave.
All the best lads.
P.S. Sorry couldn't make the swimming pool arrangement, I'm not going back to the town for easter like. During the summer maybe. Bye,
franciemccabe_gaa@yahoo.co.uk
Ed. In the poll, Mark Rutherford is still leading, closely followed by Seamus Kane and in third spot its John Joe. So keep voting!!

Did anyone watch the T.V. programme about the state of Irish league football, did anything new come up in it, but why was malcom brodie asked for an interview, this s..t left so called journalism years ago, he was born in AUSTRALIA, grew up in Scotland and came here to work, it is never obvious that he's a linfield fan! His comments on the proposed all Ireland league are not surprising coming from a sectarian bigot that he is..... it is people like him that have football destroyed here... we can't have  linfield second to any fenian team from the south....... football is dying here we all know, but no one has the balls to do anything about it - reduce prices for the youth, provide better facilities, get involved with the community.. lets face it some of the grounds  in the Highland league are probably better than the grounds we have....... FOZ

Three wins in a row !!!!!  What a turnaround, whats happened ?  I hope to get to a couple of games at Easter including Linfield (A) and I 'll see how the Town are progressing. I'm still disapointed that we didn't bulid on last season's success but changes happen and you have to follow your team whatever the form.
Paul Johnston, Newcastle Co.Down/Manchester

Well lads,
I went to Solitude and saw the Town win well by 2-0. 3 wins on the trot for the first time in ages.
It was particularly heartening given how many young lads we had out there. Maybe Donaghy
has cleared a lot of the deadwood out and if we can keep these young fellas added to some of
the better seniors who are out at the moment we'll be alright. They might not be ready to beat
the top 2 just yet but they're certainly better than most of the dross in this league and given a
few seasons who knows. Lets try and get a few more people going to the games to give them
the support they deserve. Especially impressed by Johnny Cowan and O'Loughlin (although
he's only on loan). And our two young speedsters up front scared the daylights out of poor old
Marty Tabb. Nice one lads.
Eric, Newry

Although I am sitting in my LA mansion and have never heard of Newry, I am always ready to promote a good fight, and if Fletcher and McCabe fight as good as they talk then this could be exactly what I'm looking for. But, behind a swimming pool is hardly the sort of venue that a great man like me would use. Having  done my research, I hear that Sugar Island is the place to fight in Newry. So if the two men in question are interested then meet me down there on Easter sunday at 3 o'clock. We'll talk money and then you can kill each other for all I care. God Bless America!
Don King, LA ?

have just set up the unofficial branch of the Town supporters club in South-east Asia.
We congregate every Friday to read the match reports in the Reporter.
At the moment we have only 3.5 members but the legend is spreading.
Good luck to the boys in the relegation dog fight.  The Asian bhoys are behind you.
Conor Toal, Taiwan

I have missed  very few Town mathes this year, but  i missed the win over the Crues, great win, - I was in Newcastle for the Down v Derry N.F.L match, poor result. Point being i saw lots of Town fans there, but why leave the town on a Saturday afternoon you might ask, simple, big crowd expected in Newcastle, good ground,a simple stand, good players (or so I thought) decent toilets, a match programme (even though it was a page -free though), no RUC etc. etc.....The end result was that i should have stayd in  the Showgrounds.... maybe Town fans will follow their team in greater numbers if the Town has these simple things.. Bring back Saturday night football.
FOZ

Good to say the town back on form.  Keep up the good work boys.
When we get a full team back next year we will be challenging for the title
Anon

I am writing to say how disgusted I was at the treatment of Newry fans at the end of the recent cup tie against Glentoran. We were kept locked in for 25 mins after the game had finished and denied free movement in our own town, surely it should be the away fans kept behind as in the Premiership. If this wasnt bad enough the attitude of a certain steward left alot to be desired. After about 15 mins of boistorious but good natured banter at the gate, a group of young Newry fans started banging on the gate and singing "we want out" to which the steward replied " why dont you go home and dont come back". If this is the attitude Newry fans are supposed to put up then its no wonder attendances have been steadily declining. So come on Newry encourage the fans to come back because God knows we could with all the support we can get.

I am a follower of Newry Town and I have attended every reserve match this season.  I am absolutely disgusted at the new keeper ( Who happens to go to Castlereagh College) they have in nets he is sh**.
I think it is a disgrace the way young Darren O Grady has been treated.  He was playing great football for Newry and now he has been dropped.  It's a waste of good talent and very soon some other club will be looking for him.
P.S. Frankie McCabe is a dickhead.  Stop writing in and talking sh**. Anon
Ed. No-one should stop writing in! This is a forum for free speech which is the reason you have got your say just like anyone else. Personally I think Francie is about the only one to provide a bit of banter and continuity here!

Well done John Joe!
Good stuff.  Here your name is not on the fans player of the season thingy yet!  It would be a tight vote between you and Sheamy in my opinion.
Well Sheamy gets my vote this time (+ all other times.  Johnny got it twice), as you are not there.
Drop the editor a wee line.
Anyway, good man 5 goals.  Here the web page is nearly up and running now.  I could be over playing with ya's this time next year!
Na I think I'll go to Killeavey instead if I decide to go back - too many gobsh*tes in the town squad!
Gotta go,
franciemccabe@hotmail.com
Ed. John Joe's name is on the player vote thing if you look hard enough but to tell you the truth votes have only started coming in fairly recently so he's finding it tough against Seamy and Mark Rutherford who are leading in the poll.Click Here to see

I was at the match against Crues and we were brilliant. Even with the injuries! Crap support though. Why does no body go any more. Next season looks promising. If we can get a crowd going and get behind the team maybe we could win something.

John good goal today it's a pity you had your eyes shut
It was an early birthday present for you but I bet you you can't end up top goalscorer but if you do i'll give you a job

Well all,The comment yaur fella was on about the youth doing practically anything for a game is sooo true in the Town.
I mean I've grown up in Killeavey and I know.  Ya see over here in Scotland even that so called "Ronaldo" would flourish in style.  People over here love to get you into teams.  In the town it was who you knew.  That is a load of sh**e.
I know a large amount of people who would have loved to play for Newry.  Even some of the boys (3) playing with the town at the minute who I grew up with in School played with Portadown because of the towns negliegence to spot talent.
The town have not been so lucky to get many others who did not want to play for them because of the reputation + after their unfair treatment - no need to mention names.
better go
franciemccabe@hotmail.com

I write to reply to Foz member who wrote about local players going to play for OTHER teams . Foz hit it on the head exactly when he said that money counts. These players have gone because Newry Town do not treat local players very well.Nor do they pay these players well.Don't you think that local players would avoid the hassle of travelling far if they were paid realistic money.Other clubs pay what they think is fair to these players.Newry Town expect them to play for pittance. While this narrowmindedness remains . Newry Town will never attract locals. They get better treatment elsewhere.
Dealer

Once again I see Newry footballers representing loyalist football teams such as portadown, glenavon, Glentoran crues, Ards etc. it just goes to show you what money will do maybe we will see an orange hall in Drumalane or Barcroft, I FIND IT FUNNY THAT these areas of the town are so called Nationalist areas but there are individuals from here who will play for Portadown etc. Why not join the RUC.....
This is what is wrong with the Town, young people will sell their soul for a few pounds and some sucess with a unionist team. I am not saying that Newry should be a catholic club, just that there is double standars in this footballing region, Newry Town is one of the very few clubs in the Irish League with mixed support and long may it continue.....

I would just like to say that I am on Jonathan Drakes side in all this legal stuff. He has been messed about by wheeler dealers and amateur management at the club. I think that pot-belly Rice may have had an influence in drawing up Drakes contract wrongly to suit his own ends. Funny how the rat jumps ship and leaves Rooney and others to clear up his mess after him. What really pisses me off but is the way Rice has blamed Eamonn Cole for this, he just doesn't have the 'toy-dolls' (cockney slang) to own up to his own dodgy dealings and small-time tax scam Nyuck, Newry

Friday night games are definitly the way forward for Newry town ,although i can't see the crowds improving that much until we get a decent team and start winning some games. Newry desperatly needs an injection of cash from somewhere to buy new players, youngsters are all good and well but not so many at once and not in a struggling team.
Scaldy, Warrenpoint

Enuff is enuff lads, I stood in Frazers bar Dublin with a pit in my stomach after seeing yet again a dismal display by the so called celts. For god sake Celtic Football club is an institution, it deserves respect and it must always have players that die for the cause. For christ sake there was 10 men dressed in hoops tonite in Celtic Park but all they showed was that they were a crowd of average footballers against the superior hunnish enemies . Only in my mind did Marko Viduka show the spirit that's req ired of a true celt, ready and willing to give their all against the old enemy. I honestly and unbegrudgingly say that that Dalglish can take a running jump for himself and go back scouting for the huns like he did before he took us over and he can take with him the mercenary footballers that he selected tonite against the huns because he has betrayed the memory of great Celtic men like Patsy Gallagher, Charlie Tully, Willy Maley and James Kelly who gave every thing!
they got when they played the huns. This is not by the way an initial reaction to tonites embarassing defeat, I am only highlighting the fact that celtic supporters who almost virtually own the club should demand a playing staff that has "Celtic" spirit in their bellies and not the pathetic performances of individuals in the hoops tonite that treat our great club with utter contempt. Heres hoping that brighter times lie ahead Erin go Bragh agus Celtic abu. Slan anois agus beannacht dealaimh !

I am a great fan of Newry and I think that we will survive relagation but I also think we will be put out of the Irish cup against the Glens on saturday but wait until next season we will clean up and I mean clean up we will win the league and a cup.All the youth plays that have got a teast of first team football this season will shine out next season and prove there worth.

Just in after a very poor Mid-Ulster Cup semi-final win over  9 men Lurgan Celtic, JJ Maguire with 2 the second very well taken and one by some new kid called Valentine(No.10)- looks good.
Attendance150+ -very poor as L. Celtic took a bus and a minibus to the showgrounds,.... Come on Town fans where have you all gone!! Great web site -much better than our poorly run football club, no programme, no stand and no money.
Well I will still be there on Friday night when we take on the Glens, must be  mad!!!!!

Just a short e-mail saying that I agree with ya fella from newcastle.
Spot on!

Anyway excatly what I think in every respect.
Francie McCabe

Well All,
Bitta craic for ya's!
Guess what I heard.
A super league.  No not the Rangers and Celtic thingy.
But an Irish Super league.
What do ya's reckon?
Apparently there will be four teams from the league of Ireland and four from the Irish league competing in June.
Now my immediate vote this time last year - Would have beem without a doubt for Newry to participate in this high status (scout's galore) competition.
I wouldn't even vote for them with their current state of affairs to play in a friendly match against Killeavey.  Killeavey would hammer them.
Not taking credit away from Killeavey.
They have the squad to play against all those Irish league team's apart from the likes of Linfeild and the Glens.
Ya never know I could be back in Newry this time next year playing for Killeavey!
I'm away we are late for training.

Listen here Mr. 'Francie-yourself' McCabe, this is Ronaldo from the Carnbane league. I dont know who you are or where you come from but I am not prepared to get insulted like that over the Internet. You have offended my honour and I would
like to arrange a fight with you. Perhaps behind Newry Swimming pool at 7.30pm next Friday. (not this Friday as I going to the Nou Camp for trials)If this is inconvenient for you please let me know at least 48 hours before hand or else I'll get the points if you don't turn up. By the way I know a load of Meadow boys, so don't try anything smart!

Ed,
Couldn't let the comments of Anon go by without a mention. It's alright slagging off the old men who support the Town but don't forget they're the ones who are there no matter how bad we are. He can talk all he likes about cronies but I'd like to know where all Joes cronies who came last year (for certain games but not others) and to the Euros this year are??? Joe put the Town on the map and I'd love to know why he, Ollie and Harry left (anyone tell me?)but the support was never sustained.
As for the sectarian sh**e he seems to enjoy I dont blame the older support for having nothing to do with it. They, funny enough, aren't interested in fighting the Blues etc. Actually, if he'd been to the Laurelvale game with me and the old men (and I doubt it) he'd have heard the loudest rendition of the sash this season from their 50 or so 'fans'. Maybe he'd have gone round to beat them up, the gate was open.
As for the youth argument of other people, I'm not sure where we are. We were well up the table last year with an experienced team and they've been the key to most good results this season. When Mal does play the young lads (and how many does he have...its different ones every week) the results are understandably up and down.

As for the potential increase in young lads supporting the Town if they could sing Celtic songs...I doubt it. We'll see the for Binfield and the Ports but Newry people are so apathetic that we can't seem to get a crowd no matter how we do. And it can't all be to do with 3 or 4 old men telling you to stop singing sectarian stuff. So eveyone, stop the slagging, get down and support the Town. The singing can be excellent and evertyoyne is up for it...its the sectarian sh**te that nonone is interested in.
We should be getting together and giving the team the support they need.
By the way, I'm not an old man!!
Eric, Newry

Aggh here everybody wait till ya's hear the criac:
There are trial
s this Sunday (only a few places left like) to play in Paris in an international Universities soccer tournament.
Good call or what! Hopefully there will be less conspiracy involved in the selection process in comparison to the Town.
Mark Rutherford got the vote this time.
I must go and work on that poem - or will I?  Emm?
I'm away anyway, just got shouted at there for not going to training today.  Sure I'm dying of the cold.
Slan,
Francie!

Anon,
cool poem!
I must have a go myself (wtiting a poem like) and see what I can do.
Lads and womenseees we will have to start commenting in this page before everbody deserts it and I am left with no Newry Town home page (sorry correction - no decent page to log onto).
What about Belfast United?
Does anybody know much craic about that!
Get back to me and I'll tell ya's what I know about them.
Better go short and sweet from now on.
franciemccabe@hotmail.com

I think Mal Donaghy should be sacked as soon as possible, the recent run of results are a disgrace. How can a team be in the top three and within reaching distance of Linfield one minute and then be close to the relegation zone the next !!???    The only explaination is the crap  management .  Sack Donaghy and bring back John McDonnell.
P.J. Newcastle

A Poem About Newry

Newry Town are the local team
When they play well they are like a dream
Johnny Mac scoring with his head
Or Rico or John Joe intead
Reddish, Soupie and Deano
Newry will deal you a mighty blow
With Mal as our manager we will grow leaps and bounds
No stoppin us now for the Bass Irish cup crown.

With John Joe, Witnell and Rico up front
Every team will feel the punch
So everyone watch out for Newry Town soon
We'll be there to put you out
Maybe relegation from the league or from the cup
We'll not go down the fans will shout.
It isn't far to go or to pay
For the Town to entertain you
On a Tuesday or Saturday. Anon

Just scouting around the enemy's sites. Not bad at all! Perhaps you could add a link to the London Glens homepage. The address is http://londonglens.homestead.com. All the best.
C. Irvine, London

Well lad's,
Well done John Joe, I'd vote for your but your name is not on the fans player of the season thing on the internet.
Note for the editor there!
Anyway, tell Johhny Cowan I voted for him instead this time.
I was just reading through all the stuff there about the hawk and well I'm getting very pesimestic thoughts regarding the management know.
Honestly and realistically they seem as if they will be going soon (The mgt).
The previous views of the editor to attempt to save the club is complimentary (Firday night fixtures).
Obviously he has a desire to preservere more so than the so called mangement.
I'm away oh and the Gaelic football final medal is equilvalent to a segersions championship runners up medal.
Did any of ya's ever hear of Abroath or NCR soccer football clubs?
I might be playing for one of them.
See ya's

Ed. I'm considering re-naming this page the Francie McCabe page! Thanks Francie

I agree with the fella from south Armagh, the support with the club is full of oul sh**es who wouldn't know success if it sit up and and put a wig on their baldy heads. The only way to make Newry a success is to have all the Celtic supporters etc. come down on a Friday night give the team a big push and sing songs that would make the old men curl up and support Linfield. Show us the green, white and orange and we'll show you support! The Nyuck, Newry

Editor's comments about the Friday night match's where too tempting to ignore.
Friday night match's in my opinion will be a very good idea since the town will get more revenue, support (possibly) and can do a bitta re-organisation with a additional cash.
And give that gobsh*te another chance (one too many - extra opportunity) to do some managing not diminishing talent.
The editor may well save this Mal fella's career if he pay's attention and does some work.
In my opinion.
I don't like commenting on the youth since I get shouted at, but it is an excellent chance for youth development in my view.
Plus youth support will be supported (by people = £ hello management you can't afford to ignore this) as we all know but the town need the right man for the job, Johnsey Mallon was perfect and is no longer there for some strange reason.
Anyway can't be getting off track......
I think that the drinking aspect maybe a bad idea though.
It could be argued but health & Safety legislation will more than likely not allow  drinking on certain circumstances.
But if it is benefical to the supporter's and indirectly to the team then if I was the manager I would be seriouly considering it.
I'm not and I will not be the manager but who will take the reigns after the departure of Mal?
Em, not getting off track better go I've training with the Uni cause we are going to win the Scottish Championship.  Hammer all them!
See ya's
sorry for taking up so much space lads.
franciemccabe@hotmail.com
Ed.Thanks Francie and I wasn't suggesting that the management activly support Friday booze sessions at the Showgrounds I just thought that it would be something I could enjoy....on the sly like!

Does anyone use the chatroom. I have never spoken to anyone in it. If you are in this website would you please join up. Its easy.
Someone needs to sort Mal out. He brings in crap players and ever since he took over things have went downhill. Let Johnny Mac take back the manager position.
Good luck to the Town for Saturday.

B.F. An tIur
Ed. In order for the Chatroom to work we need everyone to go there around the same time. I tried to arrange this for people to visit at 6p.m. on Sundays, but this has been unsuccessful. If you want me to post notices to visit at more convient times then tell me when, but most people visit the site on Sundays and Mondays.

well its good to see that the old Newry cronies are working their way back to the showgrounds. they got rid of JOE RICE and put in the supremo, colie of the guys variety. its good to se we are back to normal again, no fans, no money to pay players, no results and no manager. the people from NEWRY stink. i cant wait till the day that Linfield or the Glens break through into Newrys section and wreck the place and beat the sh** out of all those cronies who do not have a clue about what football is all about. not so long ago newry were 4 points adrift of Linfield and sir mal took over.. in 2 games Ben Trainor  scored 2 goals and yes wait for it ... he was dropped in the next game. he continued to play a headless chicken up front, no fault of his own tries hard, but surely to god there is better around, the fans if you can call them that were not even happy when we were beating the Glens home and away, still had to criticise, yes all those big fat supporters who never played football at any level to appreciate the standards, still yapped on. Our P.R.O what a joke, he shouts at our fans to stop singing songs.....atmosphere you silly old ballocks... have you ever heard of it. if those 30 or so singers decide to give Newry a miss then that will leave only the stewarts and the committee to run the show. i know loads of young lads who would go down and support newry if they didnt have to take the shit from their own supporters.
Newry made 1 big mistake... they got rid of one man who put newry on the map. before he went to newry they had no money, no success, no stands, no pub,no fans, no directors boxes he brought the lot and now he is gone newry have lost nearly the lot... and when the receivers move in they will lose the lot.. i predict 2 years max.  good bye and good riddance..   come on Banbridge, Peter , Jamesy and D. McParland turn them over and get rid of WEE MAL..

Anon, S.Armagh

I think it is about time something is done about the management.  When Mal took over we were second in the league and look were we are now, just two places above relegation.  I also think that should stop buying crap players like Gilgunn and Spackman when we have already got Jonny Cowan and Josh Connoly who do play in the same  positions that these players try to play in.
Anyway Hope we win the cup match on Saturday.

      !EVERYBODY!
I would just like to appoligy to all those people wishing to contact me previously.
As you can see I had .com.uk in my address but as we all know that is not possible at the moment for this to happen.
So here is my contat address:
franciemccabe@hotmail.com
Oh, and I would just like to start a new discussion:
What about the craic about Belfast United?
~I'd better go where playing in Birmigham tomorrow for the U.K. finals.
All the best
franciemccabe@hotmail.com If you have any comments about my previous statements please contact this address above!

P.S. That fella for Drumcashlone calling himself the 'Ronaldo' of the carabane league is badly mistaken about the standard of football he thinks he is playing.
I have played numerous times against the Drums and there is no way that he stuck out.  maybe stuck out like a sore tumb to his team mates when he fumbled most of the time.
I'd better go before I start a new debate!
Francie McCabe-as if you didn't know!

Ed. What about a debate on Friday night matches at the Showgrounds - maybe we can persuade the powers that be. I think its a class idea and one which would bring in more fans - It would be good if you could drink your booze at the match too!

Well, Voted for ya Shamey, but I hope your on your way to better places.
Locko say's him and feehan had to walk home from lacey's to Newry!
Here, relegation is on the cards for the town now.
Still the Banbridge match should be good and we are all expecting a win for the town.
I'll not get into comments about the youth or I'll/ we'll be here all night.
Not yaking at the management or anything but did the Town ever have a look at the talent in the Killeavey United's team?
Is Mark Rutherfords okay?  Well if he goes down the Town will go down!  Our opinions.
Gotta go were on our way to play in the U.K. finals on Friday.
University of Abertay Dundee.
That's all for now from Francie, Locko, and Savo!
P.S. What's with the new debates lads - are there gonna be any contructed comments about relegation or any other topic for that matter?  Or is it total optimism attitude ed?
Francie, Locko and Savo

Ed. Well a bit of lively debate would be asking a little since Newry-folk traditionally are a liitle docile when it comes to such things- another debate perhaps - I don't think so. Anyway, yes Newry are suffering injuries what with Rutherford and Casey going out and of course the super Paul Stranney who will hopefully be returning soon to put an end to the goalkeeper crisis. On relegation - I think we could easily be fighting it out as I predicted much earlier in the season - see News section - but the blame for this I fear will be on Mal Donaghy's head since when he took over we were still doing well ! Should he go?

As a Dundalk fan I'm just wondering how you all think Shane Reddish and Ray Campbell are playing this season. Also, now that you can use the benefit of hindsight, was Joe Rice a good thing for Newry Town?? A lot of Dundalk people are a bit jealous that he didn't pump money into us but I have heard a few rumours that Newry wish he had stayed away. Does he have any connections with Newry still?? Also, where is Dessie Gorman these days????
Colm, Dundalk

I can't stand it any longer.
Paying £3 a week to go in and watch crap football.
Some younger Newry fans were kept in for 30 minutes after the game had ended by the RUC. All others were let out except for us.
One officer went up to someone (trying to intimidate him and said "I'll speak to you in a cell later". They said it was for our safety...... bullsh*t. We weren't even allowed into the social club at half time. No wonder hardly anyone supports the Town. While Linfield probably had more supporters at the match.

GREAT WEB SITE                                   Keep up the good work Spike, Queens, New Yotk

I would just like to start a new discussion as the editor reckoned my previous comments were getting a bit boring.  More cover ups!
Anyway, another one up for discussion here is obvioulsy the relegation battle.
Would this have happened under the previous management?
Well what do you think?
I never heard any comments about the youth team being expelled from the league.
Why does nobody have any comments on that?
I'll speak to anybody with contructed comments@franciemccabe@hotmail.com

Ed. What the Youth team did was wrong so they deserved punished but a little severe putting them out of the competition - but we need to have confidence that the results we hear are the correct ( & real) ones.

SPEAKING AS A GLENAVON FAN AT TODAYS MATCH I WAS HORRIFIED AT WHAT HAPPENED AFTER TODAYS GAME BY THE NEWRY TOWN FANS...
FIRSTLY ALAN SNODDY LOST THE PLOT, SENDING OFF 3 PLAYERS WHICH SHOULDN'T BEEN SENT OFF. BUT A MINORITY OF YOUR SUPPORTER'S WHERE SHINING LASERS AT THE GLENAVON FANS FROM THE BACK OF THE BUS AND SINGING SECTARIAN SONGS TO TAUNT THEM, NOW SPEAKING AS A LEVEL HEADED FOOTBALL FAN, I THOUGHT TO DO THIS WAS A BIT STUPID, AS IF A FIGHT HAD BROKEN OUT IT COULD OF GOT OUT OF HAND.
I HAVE A LOT OF TIME FOR NEWRY TOWN FC AND ALWAYS LIKE GOING TO THE SHOWGROUNDS, BUT CAN I JUST SAY WE DIDN'T GET YOUR PLAYERS SENT OFF, IT WAS THE IRISH LEAGUE REFEREES FAULT.
ALSO COULD WHICHEVER ONE OF YOUR DIRECTORS WHO WAS DRIVING HIS BLACK MERCEDES BE MORE CAREFUL DRIVING OUT OF MOURNVIEW AT HIGH SPEED AS YOU NEARLY KNOCKED DOWN YOUR OWN SUPPORTERS GETTING ONTO THE BUS.
LOOK IT'S ONLY FOOTBALL, YOU LOT WON THE IRISH CUP GAME, WE WON THE LEAGUE GAME SO IT'S EVEN
ALL THE BEST

P, Banbridge

Seamus get out asap!
Here Sheamy, get over to England or Scotland or somewhere, you are an excellent player.  Ah well it's only a matter of time look at Rosa and Angus both with Birmingham now I think!
Voted for ya in that player of the year thing.
Hope ya actually read this.  I can't believe that the youth's where fined
                           £250-00!
Is Gary Quinn still with the youth - I wounder?
Anyway gotta go.  We are playing Edingburgh tomorrow!
All those comments about youth not getting chances are all shite!

Ed. How about starting a new discussion then - this debate is getting a bit boring

A chara

Well donethe Town for beating Glenavon. I was not able to go but I was relived to have seen the score.
Bass Irish Cup Champions at the end of the season! I hope so.
BF, An tIur

I WOULD LIKE TO CLEAR THE REASONS AS TO WHY ADRIAN LARKIN DECIDED TO LEAVE NEWRY TO GO TO PORTADOWN. FIRSTLY, NEWRY DID OFFER LARKIN A NEW CONTRACT WHICH HE TURNED DOWN.DURING THE FEW WEEKS LEADING UP TO THE END OF HIS CONTRACT HE WSA "POACHED" BY RONNIE MCFALL AND ALLEGEDLY WAS OFFERED MONEY TO MOVE TO PORTADOWN.NEWRY PLAYED BALLYMENA AT THE SHOWGROUNDS ON A TUESDAY NIGHT.LARKIN SCORED A PENALTY TO SEAL THE VICTORY. AROUND TWO AND A HALF HOURS LATER LARKIN'S CONTRACT EXPIRED AND HE SUBSEQUENTLY MOVED TO PORTADOWN. OBVIOUSLY IT WOULD HAVE BETTER FOR THE CLUB IF THEY HAD BEEN ABLE TO KEEP HIM AT THE SHOWGROUNDS BUT IT WAS THE CHOICE OF THE PLAYER AND NOT OF THE MEN IN THE BOARDROOM

Gareth  McC , Warrenpoint

I would just like to say how unlucky the town where to lose to Portadown.  They had ten men for most of the match and they held Portadown really well.  I thought they at least deserved a draw.  Good luck for the cup watch at Glenavon.

Kevin, Camlough

I DON'T UNDERSTAND ALL THE BICKERING ABOUT THE YOUTH POLICY IMPLIED AT NEWRY TOWN.AS A BLUEMAN I CONGRATULATE THE TOWN'S MANAGEMENT FOR GIVING A CHANCE TO ALL PROMISING YOUNGSTERS.SHOULD LINFIELD START DOING THE SAME THEN I FEEL MORE TALENTED PLAYERS LIKE LEE FEENEY,RORY HAMILL,ANDY KIRK,COULD BE WATCHED AND THIS WOULD SURELY START TO ATTRACT LARGER CROWDS TO IRISH LEAGUE GAMES.ON THIS POINT I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE MORE FRIDAY NIGHT GAMES SO AS AMATEUR SPORTSPEOPLE COULD ATTEND LEAGUE GAMES AND ENJOY THEIR SPORT ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON AS WELL.
FINALLY A WORD OF COMMISERATION TO ALL YOU SADDENED NEWRY FANS WHO WATCHED THE HOME SIDE CRUMBLE TO THE MIGHTY BLUEMEN ON THEIR ROAD TO THIS SEASONS LEAGUE TROPHY.
 Linfield Fan
Ed. I started the debate about local players as things on this page were getting a bit boring, I'll start something else next week! I do applaud the Town for their policy but can think of two local players who received bad treatment. I like the idea of an Irish League with local players in it because lets face it the quality of football is poor, and is likely to remain so as there is little finance and support for it.

A Chara, Mark Rutherford has been head and shoulders above everyone else I've managed to see
this season, apart from Mulholland when he's been playing gaelic for us.Up the Harps!
Slán go foill,

John, ,Oxford

I've just been to the Distillery game during the Christmas holidays and I have to say what a brilliant player Mark Rutherford is !!    Some of his skills and deft flicks would be good enough to grace the F.A. Premier League. Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Linfield started taking a liking to him (I really hope they don't) and  the best of luck for the rest of the season
P.S    Runners-up spot and cup sucess is still very possible  !!

 D
P Johnson,Newcastle /Manchester

Howdy,Well Lads,
Was home for Christmas there and the club has gone from magic to really bad!
I was reading through the comments about youth getting a chance to perform on the glamourous stage.  And really that is not true.
People who were genuinely given an opportunity where Seamus Kane, Johnny Cowan, Glen Moffat and the two Martins.
Where are all of them now?  Seamus and Johnny are still there whereas Glen is in another Irish leauge club as far as I know it.  The two martins are playing over in England, not because of Newry Town, since both were playing carabane soccer for the last two years cause the town would not give them enough chances.
I seen Rosa in the newry repoter whilst I was home at christmas and well why was he not down playing for the town.  He is a lot better than a few forwards I could mention.
Also Johnsey Mallon is gone!  What's that all about?  The youth team he managed two years ago would probably beat the current first team.  Cowan was part of it, Seamus was at Cliftonville, Glen Moffat, myself, the two Martins and many other top class players which are back to playing carabane football.
There are even good quality players that never even got a trail with the town, local talent.
Not to mention a few at Killeavey, Owen Maguire, Anthony, Karl, Liam and Gareth O' Hare, Liam Gullganon and Marty in Nets.
As for Midway the young outfit of carabane soccer, there where ex-town youths in the squad mentioned above involved in their team - Vitsey, Gray and Coley Trainer.
There is a lot off other things I could comment on but well I'll be surprised if anybody contacts me back on this lot.
Thank's for letting me state my comments editor.
For anybody wishing to contact me simply reply to,

Gotta keep it short, keep up the good work!,Cheerio Dek,Stirling

Andy the lurgan blueman was here - and he was quite impresed by the quality of this site.  My Glenavon site will soon be up and running the address being GlenavonWeb
Andy, Lurgan

Could any body possibly give me any information on an old Newry player Edward Rigby. He would have been playing about 1936 to 1947. Any informatoin would be greatly appreciated because i am doing this for his son many thanks Dave Greenhalgh, Bolton

Congratulations to newry towns best ever player of the century. Ollie Ralph Its a pity Newry town doesnt have players like they used to S McD, Killowen

Like to wish Alan Hall good-bye and best wishes to himat Ards Anon

I voted for Seamus Kane as I think he is one of the most tallented younsters ever to come out of the Camlough/Bessbrook and Newry area. Such a good natured, pleasant lad. Lets have ya Seamus!!!! Jackie Sheridan, Bessbrook now NY

Just back from the Crusaders deja vu. Despite the result the performance was heartening with so many young locals on show (admittedly against average opposition). They were given their obligatory penno v us and the less said about the free kick the better. Newry deserved better on the night but again didn't get it.
As for Larkin it's a wonder that he wasn't kept. Wasn't Anderson in charge of player contracts when he was here? Who knows where the money went but there doesn't seem to be much at the moment given how many players have left and that noone has been bought in. Eric, Newry
Ed. If Anderson was in charge maybe the good local talent (Larkin, Mulholland) will return now he's gone!?! I'd like to see transparent accounts & maybe something can be done to retrieve Larkin when the money comes in from the inter-toto!

let supporters put up whatever flags they want Aidan, Warrenpoint

aim for top 3 this season dissapointing against ballymena Niall, Dromintee

Fair point about local talent Mr McCullagh. They certainly have been given their chance this season (although how Larkin etc. were let go is another matter). But they will take time to find their feet and just because they're local doesn't mean they're all automatically up to it. The team sheet v Glentoran and subsequent result should show us that there is a place for experience too. By the way, Ed...I'll give you the benefit of the doubt!!! Judging by the mass exit v Linfield with 20 mins left alot of Newry fans may agree with you on the relegation issue...as would the old fella who was giving it loads to Donaghy as the teams left the pitch that day. He wasn't hard to miss, there were only about 50 of us left on the Newry side...and the police still held us in for 10 minutes! Eric, Newry
Ed. I can see this could develop into a nice wee debate - just what I want! In reply - How was Larkin let go? Maybe the club could be a little more transparent in how things are worked out in the boardroom and on the accounts books e.g. How has the money from the friendly with Man Utd been spent ? Also the old man shouting - he has every right to shout considering he spent £5 to watch such a schoolyard display, I think he has the right to criticise considering he is the customer and consumer !

Glentoran 0-3 Newry What about the relegation predictions now? Let's give the boys a chance and get behind them. Eric, Newry
Ed. I was only trying to stir some lively debate. Honest!

Hi there! This are Andre and Andreas from the MSV- Supporter-club "Commando Springfield". After the big fun we had at the Showgrounds in July, we are very interested in Newry Town FC and we would like to get in contact with Newry Supporters! If you are interested to, mail us!comspringfield@hotmail.com or write to: Andre Heinen, Steiermarkstr.56, 47249 Duisburg, Germany or Andreas Jörißen, Bergiusstr. 35, 47119 Duisburg, Germany! Thanks a lot....Andre and Andreas Andre, Duisburg

Hello from Duisburg!!!! We are a Supporters Club from MSV Duisburg called Commando Springfield and we would like to get in contact with some Newry supporters because since the game in the UI- Cup we are very interested in Newry town FC, too. So please contact us! You´ll never walk alone!!!! Andreas Duisburg

Well Lads, Just thought that I would send ya's an e-mail just saying hello an stuff from Scotland. Sheamy voted for ya! Here administrator this web page is cla. I was playing with Arbroath F.C. over here for a while but left to play University football. Bad call I know but I'll be back after the U.K. finals. See ya's Francie Mc Cabe (U.18's + Reserves Newry Town F.C.)

Hello to all the boys at newry. I am a newry town fan and proud of it all I want to say is please get your act together soon before its too late. also the main problem at the showgrounds is the management and we all know this. We need to get a decent manager and then maybe we will start winning again Jen McD, Rostrevor

IN REPLY TO YOUR COMMENTS REGARDING LAST SATURDAY'S DREADFUL RESULT AGAINST LINFIELD AND THE ACCOMPANYING ARTICLE, I THINK YOU WILL FIND A NUMBER OF FLAWS IN YOUR ARGUMENT. I FIND IT ABSOLUTELY AMAZING THAT YOU CRITICISE THE CLUB FOR NOT ENCOURAGING LOCAL TALENT; WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN SINCE THE START OF THE SEASON! HAVE YOU NOT HEARD OF LOCAL TALENT SUCH AS JONNY COWAN (ONE OF THE BRIGHTEST YOUNG PLAYERS TO WEAR A TOWN SHIRT) ,BEN TRAINOR, SEAMUS KANE, KARL HUGHES, PAUL DONEGAN, CIARAN FEEHAN (OKAY, I'LL GIVE YOU THAT ONE. NOT EXACTLY YOUNG AND NOT EXACTLY A SUPERSTAR EITHER)AND CHRIS MURPHY. I ADVISE YOU TO GET YOUR FACTS CORRECT BEFORE YOU START COMPLAINING ABOUT THE STATE OF THE CLUB. OKAY, THINGS ARE NOT GOING WELL AT THE MINUTE BUT WE CAN'T FORGET HOW FAR THE CLUB HAS COME IN THE LAST 4 YEARS AND AT THE END OF THE DAY, MAL DONAGHY AND SEAMUS HEATH ARE NOT MAGICIANS AND IT IS THE 11 MEN ON THE PITCH THAT PLAY THE FOOTBALL. Gareth McCullough, Warrenpoint
ed.The point I was trying to make was that the board consitently let good local talent go by not renewing contracts. I think Newry Town could be a better team with players of Adrian Larkin and Shane Mulhollands calibre.

I can't believe the recent run of results ! What's happened to a team that done so well in the Inter Toto cup pre season and came 4th in League last season ? I havn'tt been to any games this season because I'm studying in Manchester but I will be attending the Distillery and Cliftonvile games during the Christmas Break, then I'll see what the hell has happened to my team. Paul Johnston, Newcastle/Manchester

IF YOU WANT TO ATTRACT CROWDS BUILD A NEW STADIUM NEAR THE TRAINING PITCH OR IMPROVE GROUND CAPICITY AT THE SHOWGROUNDS PS KEEP DESSIE Andy McMath, Kilkeel

I just want to make a comment about the disgraceful behaviour of referee Leslie Irvine in the home game against Glenavon.
He obviously took pleasure in goading Mark Rutherford and said something that was inappropriate and hurtful to the player.
I would, as a Newry Town fan, hope that this matter is taken seriously and dealt with properly. That type of thing has no place in irish league football. Soupie, Newry

Being a Cliftonville fan and having not looked round your site for too long (Match Of The Day has just started) I'm impressed.
Can't wait til we stuff yous in the Shield next week! Solitudarian, Belfast

Good Luck Lads.
You are in all your fans thoughts and prayers. Just get out there and give it your best shot. love from one of the locals. From a town so near to use. Sarah, Warrenpoint

Welcome back JAB, good to see the boy made it back from Australia in one piece! Best of luck boys for the season ahead, and well done in europe, you made all the town supporters proud! Send JAB a message for me...tell him his wee cousin from Australia is hoping he has lost some weight since I saw him!! Good to see you back on the pitch Ciaran. Peter Feehan, Sydney,Australia

Delighted to be able to keep track of Newry Town via your web site and the Internet. Took a while to get this year's information on the site, but I thoroughly enjoy keeping tabs on the team's progress from almost the tip of the African continent. Siteki and Swaziland are a long way from Warrenpoint and Newry Town Football Club but this site brings it a little bit closer and certainly more immediate. Are there other registered Newry Town supporters in this neck of the woods ! C.Bradley, Swaziland

Gidday from NZ, Does anyone remember Marcus Woods. He played for Newry in 1997/98 before coming out to NZ to play for my local club, Matamata Swifts. I've lost touch and was hoping someone could help me with an address or something. Cheers. Dwayne Barlow, New Zealand

Hi folks,
as a MSV Duisburg supporter and member of the internet supporters club ' Lucky Zebras ' I 'd like to congratulate you for having such an excellent homepage. The report of the game in Duisburg was pretty good and fair. I was very suprised of your team because they played very discplined in the back with a e few good actions forwards. Thats very similar to kind of play Duisburg usually plays in the german league . Coming deep from the own half with fast movements twoards the box and having the goal shot. The goalie has good reflexes but seems to have problems to keep the ball when deflecting it. The most amazing player to my mind was Mark Rutherford. He is a very fast and has goodcontrol of the ball. Could be a player for the german football league. In general the team is what the name says ( a team ) and MSV has to be careful today otherwise this could end in bad manor for us. Unfortunally the game will not be televised in Germany. May be some of you write a good report so I can make up my mind of the game Such excellent supportes are allways wellcome at Duisburg.
Greetings from Raven Raven - Duisburg

Well done on an almighty result today against the Germans. Look forward to you guys at Solitude again this season! Cliftonville supporter

well done all on the fantastic result against duisburg we should have no problems beating the likes of linfield and glentoran next season and win the league after a grand performance like that. no excuses now after beating the team who beat Bayern Munich Good Luck. flo - Newry

Hello Newry Town,
thanks for the great party we had in Newry. It was a pleasure for us. Hope to see you again.

If Linfield and Glentoran and the others can drape union jacks around The Showgrounds, then newry fans should be free to bring their own flags including tricolors. K.O'R. - Warrenpoint

I were years looking for Alan Byrne he is fantastic.Could you givme some photos and videos of him, please? In my school he is the most know player of Great Britain,we made a bet for that reason to see who was better Byrne or Gianfranco Zola, I have to gather information and to be given it to my friends. For the time being Alan him this winning. Maty a really fan of Byrne M. M.- Bs As, Argentina

Congratulations on ruining another local footballer's potential Anderson, namely Chris Coffey. What about trying to get Gavin Trainor back to the Town and telling 'the Hawk' to give up the fags and Whiskey's the night before games and the pills before the matches! One of the supporters from the Town Vs Duisberg game commented that 'Gorman ran about for the first twenty minutes like a man possessed (with an E-tab) and when it wore off he had to be subbed'. If you had any sense sign Jab Feehan and pay him good money because you lost Gavin Treanor by paying him peanuts and giving fat Scottish hasbeens a living!!!!!!!!! bajaldo - Newry

God love you Hyle, you havent got a foggy due.
Just because Joe Rice has allowed a few nights in the social club for Sinn Fein doesnt mean he is a hypocrite because he has asked for the tri color not to be flown at the showgrounds. I myself have put up tri colors at the Showgrounds only to have them taken down, long before Joe came on the scene. Joe when he arrived at the showgrounds came with a business brain and a football brain, he got rid of the dead wood in the place and set about to get Newry to the top, he said three years to Europe, was he right ? did he deliver ? Hyle you know the answer. Why is it that every time that something or someone gets to the top or is successful as*h*les like Hyle are always there to critisise.... JEALOUS.. I THINK SO. Even if Joe leaves this year, the next contenders will ask like Joe did, only ask, for the tricolor not to be flown or waved, as not to offend fellow Newry supporters. As far as him being small ,your right, being bald, your right, being a greddy bas**rd, your right again and like everyone in the world we are all greedy bas**rds. thats why he is successful , thats why Newry are successful. I was in Zagreb on that wonderful day when Newry took to the field. To me it was better than Chelsea v Vfb Stuttgart last year in Stockholm when the blues won the European cup winners cup. To me Joe is the Ken Bates of Irish football, he is the Messiah!!! Newry DONT F..k up. Re elect JOE as chairman and back him to the hilts. By the way hyle i bet you paid another £45.00 to those greddy Man united bas**rds for another British shirt J.S. - Armagh

I recently saw a comment on this website from a certain hatchetman-loyalist belfast saying that our national flag is the northern ireland flag and remember 1690. I have 3 things to say to him- f**k him, f**k 1690, and he can shove his N.Ireland flag up his hole. B.F. - An t'Iuir.

Why is Newry Town FC so much against the flying our our national falg? Mr Joe Rice would be a hypocrite to condemn the Newry fans for singing "rebel" songs at the matches as the very same man held, not 1, but 2 Sinn Fein nights at his Town Bar over the Easter week-end. It goes to show that the baldy wee fart is a money grabbing, false, greedy little shite who should be declared a true Brit!. When the new season commences every Newry fan should bring their republican/nationalist regailia to the Showgrounds and protest the oppresion and unfairness that is being dictated by wee Joey Hyly - An tIuir

Its good to see the site has really developed. I would like to think that the club itself has given some support to this young lad for his efforts to promote Newry Town F.C... probably not. Well anyway whos all going to Croatia ? Are you rooster cocannon, because I heard you paid £300.00 pound for a ticket to sing along with all those pommie toffs. Well to all those so called soccer supporters who went to Barce, how about supporting your own home town in Europe. Well one things for certain I will be there and i will have the biggest tricolor Newry or Croatia will ever see. Whats the bets no photos will be taken of it . Well I am going on my jack todd but when i get there i hope to meet up with some of my old inter village firm mates who are travelling from England and one even from Australia and by the way Newry committee dont get embarrassed if the 4 of us (hey not a bad name for a group) decide to go lulally.forza newry J.S. A chairde,
Ní ceart leis an tIúir bheith cumann dubh ,nuair a bíonn an cathair Êireannach go leor. Ach is fearr liom gan bheith bhaistaird agus tá súil agam go bhfuil an slúa go h-an sasta nuair atá sí sa Phairc an Iúir.Is féidir linn club cairdiúil a taispéanach don chruinne agus bá mhaith liomgo bhfuilimid duine bródúil ach nílimid cuntaí. therefore,we should not be a sectarian club and no emblems(yes Joe Rice and his hangers-on,you have to ban Union Jacks etc..)should be allowed,as they only polarise a team.....especiallysince half our players come from Linfield anyway...

As a GLENTORAN FAN was disgusted to see the letters that have been published on this site, Football is football...if fans riot it is because of football. It has come to my conclusion that Newry fc are similar to that of linfield they care more about poliitics and making a point than there football team. THE MAIN REASON YE CAN'T BRING TRICOLOURS TO THE OVAL IS BECAUSE IT IS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. EVERY GFC V'S N.F.C HAVE BENN GOOD MATCHES WITH BOTH SETS OF FANS BEHAVING ADMIRABLEY. BUT YOU CANT BRING TRICOLOURS TO EAST BELFAST ITS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. T.S. - Belfast

Paul H is wrong, the tricolour is NOT your national flag, the northern ireland national flag is the red cross, red hand and crown REMEMBER 1690 Hatchetman-Loyalist Belfast

I once sent a message and it was answered by J. McC.Could this same kind gentleman tell me when the mighty Town will be in action in the Intertoto Cup(f**k Crusaders for winning on the final day..wa**ers) I'm stuck in Sasana(England)and probably won't see it,but as an old fan(at home games only, I don't like people throwing stones at me)I would like to spread the word around the ignorant(Man. Utd supporting)English.Newry Abu!
Does the fact that Cliftonville were thrown out of the Cup mean that Newry should get their UEFA Cup spot?I'm not one to support the sectarian viewpoint of the IFA(eg,would Linfield have got thrown out in similar circumstances?hmmm..)but I would love to see the Town inthe UEFA Cup as a sickener for all the begrudgers. Anybody got any views on this, especially Cliftonville supporters? PS.Say hello to Pat McGrath for me please...Ballyholland Harps for the Championship! J. McA., Newry/Oxford

It would be better to see some more home grown talent instaed of flying them duffs in from across the water. D.A. Belfast

Just a short comment about the new "stand". Where is it??? Great season, great matches, great results. We can do it next season if the fans get behind the team from the first game. Paul Straney will be sorely missed. P.C. Newry

Some great comments. J from South armagh is on the money. He knows the score. You need more supporters like him. Newry seem like a small time club to me with few supporters so anybody who's prepared to stand up for their club, their Town and their flag will do for me. You can count The unknown soldier as a Newry Town supporter now but forgive me for supporting my other team Chelsea as well. I would like to have been there when you ran Portadown out of town or the riot against Linfield. Somebody who was there tell me about it. Who are the Inter Village Firm and where are they now. Yes, find the IVF and give them all season tickets. Oh, by the way. Real hooligans don't stone buses. Go toe to toe, with your foe and if you don't know, ask the IVF. The unknown soldier

Come on let Robbie Quinn have a kick about he is amazing! I am his big cousin!! C.C. -Dartford, Kent

Congrats on making Europe boys! The site is great, it keeps me intouch with all the results and all the fun I miss at the Town games. Last time I visited this site I rated it 1st Division, but having seen Chelsea's website ,I now admit it is 20 times better. I'm still over here pestering the English about how the Town is going to Europe and were unlucky not to get to a U.E.F.A. spot. YET I probably won't be home in time for the Intertoto,so the club will just have to go further if I am to see them.Ah well,at least the Gaelic season has started......fair play to youse, boys. slan go foill. J.McA.-Oxford

As a local person from Warrenpoint, it is good to see that Newry Towns arrival into the Irish premier league was met with success. Hopefully in the near future some silverware can be got, best wishes. B. S. - Manchester

What a great first season in the Premier League for the Town. Finishing 4th was a good acheivement.I am concerned with the strikers. Shiels and Gorman are great but getting on a bit. Town should go for Vinnie Arkins of Portadown and while they're there , get Casey as well. The reason why I voted for Larkin is because as a young player he looks good for the future and has had a great first season in senior football. He is strong and quick and has a great desire for the game. Here's hoping he and the rest if the Town team can build on this year's success. P. McC.

What a change this site has endured since the last times I entered it. Was down at Solitude on Saturday, and to be honest I was hoping for a victory for the Reds. The reason being that, thanks to the Newry teams egotistical ideology, the Reds are now almost certain to go down. If that scenario is confirmed, Newry will be the only Nationalist outfit represented in the League. Well we can only hope that they hold their nerve and get stuck into the Newtownards scum. I was glad to see the amount of tricolours and Nationalist related flags and emblems on show at Solitude. Why, Mr Campbell - with your great big illuminous yellow waistcoat (sic), did you not attempt to bring down the tricolour at Solitude. Becasue you are a falsifer, a part-time Nationalist who was afraid some Cliftonville fan would beat your ballix off. No concessions to Rice - JOE MUST GO. It is good to see we have a Cork visitor to the site. Tiocfaidh Ar La mo chara. Hyly-Newry

Just a note to congradulate the lads on getting into europe. i hope all the true fans are off getting the old passport out, ready for the trip to croatia. and good luck to big john mac on getting the job full time. i think he'l do the business. i would also like to agree with the guys who slated that old bastard campbell for not letting the lads bring the tricolours into the ground. next time he trys to stop you hit him a slap in the mouth. i know for a fact that all the other stewards hate him too.but lads on the other hand ntfc is not a nationalist club nor a unionist club. first and foremost it is a football club.whether people want to hang flags of ireland, britain or ethnic albanians its their own choice, and as a steward i wouldnt stop anyone flying any flag no matter what colour it was.this is the guzzler signing off for summer. see you in croatia.p.s. dont forget the tricolours! the guzzler-Warrenpoint

Leave J Rice alone. I've been going to see Newry as a child with my Grandad when they were in the B Division. Now they have finally achieved something he should be congradulated. ???-Bangor

As a Celtic fan from Glasgow, I understand how fans of Newry Town must feel about having their identitiy trod on by those in charge of the club. We have just got rid of the "anti-bigotry man" Fergus McCann, who's greatest achievement was to ignore sectarian attacks on Celtic fans by the huns in Bridgeton. So much for anti-bigotry. Celtic supporters are fortunate at games, in that we have security in numbers, and it would be increadibly difficult for stewards to remove every tricolour from the crowd at a game (although I'm sure they'd like to). Anyway, Keep The Faith, and give the scum a good going over (in football terms!), next time you play them.....TAL Pat Bhoy Tim-Glasgow

Newry is a nationalist town. Its population is exclusively nationalist. Then why (unlike just about any other club in the league) can't express our culture at matches ? No matter what Joe Rice wants, Newry Town FC is always going to be a nationalist club, just as Glentoran or Linfield will always be a unionist club. There will always be evidence of sectarianism at these matches If you watch a Glentoran or Linfield home match, you will see Union Jacks, you will hear sectarian songs being sung. It's part of N.Ireland culture, and Joe Rice can't change this. What Rice is enforcing is cencorship, and it's about time people realise this. ???-???

I would just like to make a comment to j from s.armagh... you are right when you say that we have to hated to be successful I can just remember the day in the social club and the riot broke out against Portadown, and I also remember the riots that broke out against Linfield on the Mall, inNewry. I just wonder where all of the lads are now? it is such a shame that we cannot get a good following together, then again is it any wonder with when you have a look around the showgrounds today and you see the amount of Joe Rice cling-ons that wear the Newry Town coats and tracksuits. Im not rediculing Mr. Rice for having such people around but if you asked those certain individuals to pay the £5 admission or buy a club lotto ticket or even attend an away game they would probably have a heart attack. I followed Newry Town everywhere, now with being at University in England i am restricted to attending matches only when I am at home for holidays and am absolutely disgusted when I see the teamsheetand see the likes of Trevor Smith, Sammy Shiels, Kevin McKeown (wanker) etc on the it. Next season I do hope that John McDonnell gets the job full-time, if the board dont fancy that idea I think that they should go for Roy McCreadie who would take no shit from these footballing mercenaries whoever gets the job should get rid of bad players like the above mentioned and the likes of Chris Coffey, Alan Hall and Anthony Mitchell and replace them with NEWRY players - LOCAL players who will give 100% in a blue and white shirt i.e. Robbie Casey, Raymie Byrne, GavinTreanor, Davy O'Hare (as Stranney with be out for a long while) and also find out if Jab Feehan is coming home from Australia - he would be the perfect partner for the "hawk", and also give the youth a chance too, players like Seamus Kane, Aonghus Martin, Rossa Martin they wont do much rotting in the reserves and therefore there would be no impressions made to any of the clubs across the water - so no big transfer deals would be done. what do we reckon about playing Adrian Larkin in goals on Saturday against Cliftonville - he was my man of the match last week. I WILL SEE OF THE RICE CLING-ON'S AT SOLITUDE ON SATURDAY - NOT!
Keeno - Bolton

I was at the match today with Ballymena and all I can say is that Paul Stranney is a tribute to the Newry Town team. I hope his leg heals soon and he gets back to football. I didn't feel much like watching the match after that but if he was suffering then so was I. It's only a pity that we don't have a few more Paul Stranneys. I've cast my vote ! Get well soon Paul !

Congratulations on going to Europe, great to see the turn around in the town's fortunes, and well done on the victory on Saturday. Was in the area in March, visiting a mate in Warrenpoint and thought it was great, sorry to have missed the 20.03.99 match hopefully next visit will be able to attend the Showground and catch the 'da town in action.

Greetings to all in Republican Newry from Rebel Cork. Great to hear that you boys are flying the tricolour. Keep it up. For a long time I was under the impression that Cliftonville were the only nationalist side in the Irish League. Great to see the Orange scum turned over by the Germans.F**k the huns and the dubs
Slan go foill Barns, Cork

Newry have always been and this season has proved no different to be a boring team to support. There is no atmosphere at the matches, apart from a few big games like against Linfield or the Glens. Unless they start winning things, they will be just another number in the league. And they will not do that until they get a good support behind them. Whatever happened the Mudja behind the nets. The club needs a bit of character to put fear into their opponents. So next season Sing Up.... Who are we .... GF, Newry/Dublin

Well, well, well. Another defeat at the House of Hu***ry today (Sat 20 Mar) and another display by the Chief of Staff of the NTFC Stewards Association, Mr J Campbell, on refusing us "permission" to proudly fly our tri-colour. This man is obviously an anti-republican, narrow-minded mooncalf. Who the f**k (I'll do the editing for you) does he think he is. John, or whatever, your name is, f**k away off and support an non-catholic team like the Ports or the Glens if you have any problem with the national flag. Also, it was with deep saddness that I learned of the decision by Mr Ralph and Mr Fray to resign. But it goes to show that the baldly wee fart Rice is doomed to failure - no managers, rapidlty loosing support and an increasingly sh**e team. The S Armagh 'rebel' (if you may) has hit the hammer on the head with his comments. Why should we take any sh**e from aggressors from Portadown and Linfiled. "We will never be defeated". TAL Hyly - Newry

Well boys, the form looks pretty good. Some of you may remember me, the lad who visited from Australia in 1997. The black Feehan!! Miss you all, miss the craic most of all. See ou all next year, and as I read in the comments....Hold you Tri-Colour High boys! Sing it Newry!! P.F.-Sydney, Australia

Sorry to use 'your' page to send this message -- but is there anyone out there that can help me ?. My late father in Law 'Dillwyn Gavenchy Jones'played for Newry Town back in the late 1930's. I am researching the family history -- Is there a historian or someone at the club, or does anyone know anyone that can give me 'any' information on football at Newry Town around this period, any contact name, address, anything that may help me in my search on 'Dillwyn Gavenchy Jones'will be gratefully received. Thank You all for putting up with me on 'your'site. andy.thomas@owenscorning.com A.T.-Buckley, North Wales

I would like to say first of all that I echo the comments of R.mcgrath, and I also like to put forward a proposition: Any fans wearing or carrying politically offensive material should be banned from the Irish League. And i would also like to say that we do not want the so called supporters who stone the police and visitng supporters buses down at the town games because they drag the name of our club through the dirt. P.S. any Glentoran fans reading this see you on Tuesday Night! Skills-Newry

I was going to the newry town match against glentoran in the showgrounds today(saturday) and I would not liked to have been the glentoran fans who had traveled down to Newry and at the last minute the match was called off. Mark-Newry

I'M GOING TO GO TO THE GLENTORAN GAME ON SATURDAY, AND WAS JUST WONDERING WHY THE F**K YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TRICOLOURS TO THE MATCHES. I'M SURE GLENTORAN WILL HAVE THEIR UNION JACKS AND THE RED HAND OF ULSTER WITH THEM AT THE GAME AS USUAL. IT JUST ISN'T FAIR. IT MAKES THE RIVALLRY BETWEEN THE TWO CLUBS WORSE BUT IT HELPS TO BUILD UP A BETTER ATMOSPHERE. SO, IF YOU'RE GOING TO THE NEWRY GAME AGAINST GLENTORAN THIS SATURDAY, BRING YOUR TRICOLOURS TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. IT'S TIME WE WERE ALLOWED TO BRING OUR NATIONAL FLAG TO THESE FOOTBALL MATCHES LIKE MOST OTHER CLUBS IN THE IRISH LEAGUE!!!!!! Paul H.-Newry

Just a quick reply to Baker,...I dont know whether or not you have noticed on away games ,but the opposition fans have always tried to attack Newry town fans ,cliftonville fans, Derry city fans, are you starting to get the picture Baker. If NEWRY are going to become successful then they are going to have to become hated, success brings hatred from opposing fans, success means more fans at the turnstyles, more fans means a higher chance of aggrivation,Baker if you cant stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Dont blame the young lads for creating a bit of fear to the opposing fans, it will make them take notice and keep them at the other side of the ground where they belong. Rem Dundalk a few years ago when Linfield destroyed the place and seriously injured people, well this was because they knew that they could take liberties. To the wanderer, melbourne, yes I remember boxing day in the social club when the portadown dungaree casuals took over the bar, we were shitting ourselves in our own bar in our own town and fair play to the IVF Inter Village Firm who ran them out for them never to return to terrorise us again. MON THE Brook oopsTOWN J - S.Armagh

HAVING FOLLOWED THE TOWN SINCE I WAS A KID I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A FEW POINTS.WHY IS JOHN KENNY, ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED PLAYERS IN IRELAND ON LOAN AT LARNE? WHO PICKS THE TEAM AND WHOS IN CHARGE OF BUYING PLAYERS AND TRAINING,IS IT TREVOR, OLLIE OR HARRY? DONT GET ME WRONG, IM NOT BEING A PAIN IN THE ARSE BY CRITISISING EVERYTHING, I JUST DONT THINK WE NEED THREE MANAGERS. CONGRATS TO THE LADS AFTER BEATING THE GLENS 1-0. WE WERE BRILLIANT. AS SOMEONE WHO FOLLOWED THE TOWN WHEN WE WERE SHITE, (I WAS THERE AT ARDS WHEN WE LOST 9-0 AND AT HOME TO BALLYMENA WHEN WE LOST 8-0) TO SEE THE TOWN CONSISTANTLY BEATING THE BIG TEAMS AND CHALLANGING FOR HONOURS IS SOMETHING I NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE. TO ALL THE REGULAR SUPPORTERS, KEEP THE SINGING GOING, GET BEHIND THE TEAM, AND KEEP THE FAITH. WE'LL WIN THE LEAGUE NEXT YEAR IF WE STICK TOGETHER. PS. WILL THE WASTERS WHO KEEP THROWING STONES AT THE AWAY SUPPORTERS BUSES PLEASE STAY AWAY. WE DONT WANT YOU AT THE SHOWGROUNDS. THE GUZZLER - Warrenpoint

It is great that Newry Town have this wonderful little web site now where real fans like me get a chance to have their say. What I have to say is positive I would never criticise the men in the blue and white unlike some of Newry Town's so-called supporters. I was saddened recently whilst standing beside a young man and anything like the abusive language he was directing at his own team. It almost made me sick. In future Newry Town "fans"(if that's what you can be called) try encouragement not discouragement .Thank you. L.McG.-Newry
I would just like to remind those so called Newry Town supporters who stonned the Crusaders Supporters Buses as they left the town on Monday night and who continue to bring the good name of our club down despite calls from our chairman and board that Newry Town Football Club is and always has been a MIXED club.I would call on our club chairman and his board of directors to act promptley before the situation gets out of hand. And to the louts who continue to shout and chant secterian and offencive abuse at matches EMPTY VESSELS MAKE MOST NOISE !!!!!! R McGrath

Just to say that the RUC are going a bit over the top when it comes to protection! 5 armoured vehivles for a dozen non- secterian fans. But when a couple hundred Newry fans go away where are the RUC? Safely tucked away in the Ardmore station. Well done lads!!! I would also like to let all those tight supporters who stoned the bus know that will you be there when we are playing away those teams who you stoned will try for revenge but will you be there? I doubt it. So if you think of stoning any buses again think of us who have to go away. Thank you. Baker - Newry

I've just discovered the site so and it's great to be able to read about Newry Town and what their supporters say. Let me be brief so you know where Wanderer is coming from. The greatest day in Newry Town's history was new years day 1990 when a small group of Newry Town fans walked into the Social club at Newry and took on the Portadown "casuals". This is our club and our town. This game belongs to the people and supporters should be allowed to sing and chant whatever they want. Come on. Lets hear some replies or are you all sitting at home watching Man U T.V on Sky. Wanderer - Melbourne

I would like to take this oppurtunity to acknowledge your superb web-site as it keeps me up to date with whats happening at the town.Keep up the good work and keep banging in the goals. Stoke-on Trent, England

JOE RICE, A LITTLE THING HERE ABOUT THE TRI-COLOURS... WE CLASS IT AS OUR FLAG AND I SEE IT IF ALL THE OTHER CLUBS CAN TAKE THEIR UNION JACKS TO HOME AND AWAY MATCHES THEN I DONT SEE WHY WE CANT TAKE OU FLAGS TO OUR HOME OR AWAY MATCHES. Andy-Newry

As someone who has supported NTFC for a lifetime I am disappointed at the number of local players who currently wear the NT jersey It appears to be a team of Linfield ex players and they are always picked even when the team plays crap Paul Straney the best keeper in the league was dropped after the Crusaders game. Ian Walker had a similar shot to save from McManaman and the result was the same How does this justify being dropped? There WERE 5 players from Newry on the squad Coffey has gone to Larne Mc Parland was with Larne before Xmas and hasnt figured since then Larkin after a good start now resides on the bench Trainor now does the business with Carrick and Mulholland is now a key player with Cliftonville. I would hope that NTFC could field some locals to make it a NTFC CLUB and not a team of imports. Heart &Soul supporter

In reply to the last commemts reguarding so called Newry fans stoning the Crusaders bus, I think that this section of fans mainly come along just to chant sectarian songs and give abuse. I don't think they are that bothered about the results. It pretty sad to think that they have nothing better to do on Saturday afternoons. However I don't agree that Newry Town F.C. are a mixed club. Maybe the board and players but the supporters are from a very strong Catholic/ Nationalist town and area covering South Armagh/Down and East Down. P Johnston-Manchester/ Newcastle Co.Down

To Mr McGrath below me, I am in agreement with you that these attacks on visiting fans should be stopped but do you think that you could use the site to condemn the actions of Linfield and Glentoran fans when we travel to their Lions Dens as well, I mean you wouldn't want to be seen as one sided would you. As concerned your ideaology of sectarianism, I don't exactly oppose it as fiercly and as narrow-minded as you do - in fact I would be a hypocrite to condemn it, but these things happen in our sport. You can't have normal sport in an abnormal society and sectarianism, like it or not, is a major, and of course, unwanted part of the society which we live in. Baker, where are you. Are you computer illiterate or something. If the librarian denies you the access to the internet - take her hostage Hyly-Newry

I would just like to say Come on the Town we're going all the way this season and bring on the Champions League next season. I used to play for Newry Youth Team but after getting rejected I turned to a life of crime because of constant criticism from that big usless Paul Troope string of p**s. I would also like to say to Paddy Philips in Liverpool that he doesn't stand a chance of playing even Carnbane league football either does twinkle toes Karol Hughes. S.M. Newry

What a wonderful win on New Years Day. I think that is 2 out of 2 at the Showgrounds for us against the blues. They must be really blue. I actually got a phone call on a mobile at approx 3.30am Oz time and I knew exactly what was going on, the atmosphere was fantastic, I think we had just scored the winner. They say that one man does not make a team, but how wrong we are, as it has been proven ,the new Mr Newry of football, JOE RICE has made a team. But let me tell you something, in order to remain as one of the best, the whole of the town has to support what Joe is trying to achieve, get behind the town vocally and financially. Newry as a commercial town is rapidly growing, so lets keep in line with this growth as far as football is concerned. Your web site is fantastic , keep the good work going, and by the way I dont see any sponsorship on this site, think big think money think EUROPE.......MON THE TOWN MAZA, Australia

Was at the Linfield game on New Years Day and thought it was excellent. Stadium was Top Class and the burgers delicious. Went away Happy after a great result. Newry Town will be mentioned alot around the bistros of Paris from now on. Allez Newry Town Allez ANTOIN - Paris

I think Newry are unfortunate in that their loyal supporters seem to 'scare' off those who would like to go to a game once in a while. I go to the Showgrounds about once every month but sometimes I find the atmosphere could be a lot better. Half of the fans are more concerned with sectarian slogans than the match. I think the Glens fan was right. When they last came to play us their fans really got behind the team. Ours were a lot quieter. We should encourage some sense of belonging with each other. Jonny

I feel compelled to air my views on a particular incident that occurred down at the Oval last Saturday (19.12.98). Newry were down 2-0 and playing horrifically and a few of us shouted at our second rate goalkeeper Mr. McKeown to sort his defence out. Much to my surprise he turned around and raised his middle finger and showed us it. Is this anyway for a player, of a team for whom we travelled forty miles to see, to behave. I think not. I hope Mr 'Non-Sectarian' Rice brings this little matter to Mr McKeowns attention and acts appropriately. Another matter was the stoning, by Glentoran fans, of the bus carrying the Newry fans. Three windows were smashed but luckily no-one was seriously injured in this blatant provocative and sectarian attack. Can I ask Mr Rice as to why there was no RUC presence escorting the bus to the safety of Broadway Roundabout. No wonder we find it hard to attract a large following away from home. Of course Newry, who bring a good few fa! ns to their away matches, never receive an escort. And why is it that anytime Linfield or Glentoran come to the Showgrounds the town is brought to a standstill with RUC landrovers with the occupants decked in full riot gear.
In response to the Student asking wether or not he should bring down the tri-colour for the Linfield match. Of course bring it down - and should you refuse entry or be ejected from the ground then hey you won't be alone plus the grave-yard is only around the corner Hyly An tIuir

I was at the Portadown match last Saturday. A very disappointing game and an even more disappointing attendance. There was barely a whimper to be heard from the home support. The club needs to do something soon if it wants to stay at the top. They need the support more than anything. The team have also gone downhill in recent weeks. A lot of longballs where being played against the Ports, no good, that's relying on luck. We are in danger now of finishing mid table. The Town has suffered long enough, we need to be up there giving as good as we got throughout the years. GF Newry/Dublin.

I FEEL NEWRY TOWN NEED TO WISE THEMSELVES UP AS, BEING A GLENTORAN SUPPORTER,NEWRY HAVE THE LEAST INTIMIDATING SUPPORT AND A MATCH AT THE SHOWGROUNDS FEELS LIKE A HOME MATCH FOR THE AWAY TEAM.WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE SUPPORT YOU HAD AT THE START OF THE SEASON?WHERE EVER WE GO WE BRING OUR UNION JACKS AND I SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH NEWRY FANS (PREDOMINANTLY CATHOLICS)BRINGING THEIR TRICOLOURS,IT INCREASES THE RIVALRY.WELL,ANYWAY, WELL DONE NEWRY FOR DRIVING AWAY THE REAL FOOTIE FANS,HOPE THE OULD MEN ARE CHEERING YOU ON STILL. RELEGATION IS LOOKING MORE OF A POSSIBILITY THAN YOUR EUROPEAN DREAM? Clark - Belfast

In relation to PJ from Newcastle on the tricolour issue. My views are - that there is no reason why not. Other clubs supporters are allowed to show their flags and emblems, whether at home or away matches. The majority of the people of Newry recognise the tricolour as their flag, so Newry supporters should be allowed to show their identity if they want. But unfortunately there are a lot of people who seem ashamed of the tricolour and think it is dirty and letting the club down. If I seen a person being told to take down a flag of any colour or if they where ejected from the ground. I would not Support the club anymore. G.F. Newry/Dublin

Hi my name is Richard Fletcher and I play for Drugcashlone, sorry Drumcashlone FC. I Really feel I should be doing better than this and be playing in the Irish League, preferably for Newry Town. I am recognised as the 'Ronaldo' of the Carnbane League at the minute. I would quite happily make the move to Newry for something like £20,000, then perhaps £1000 a week there after. Of course I would be happy to negotiate these prices but I can guarantee if I come to Newry I'll take them to the top! Richard F. Craigmore
keep up the good work ,be satisfied with consolidating this year and maybe a few cup runs.A few midfield players eg R.Casey and a good target man up front, somebody who can hold up the ball and bring others into the game.Well done to Joe Rice he put his money where his mouth was and i just wish those players realised this and put in a bit more effort. Good luck for the rest of the season ,5th is probably the best we will do. Rufus, Bessbrook

During the University Christmas break my friends and I will be coming back to the Showgrounds for a couple of games and I would like to know peoples opinion on whether we should bring our tri-colour along with us for v Linfield etc ?. The reason we want to know is that we don't want situations like being ejected from the ground by the likes of Joe Rice or have some old guy telling us to take it down. Finally could anyone tell me does N.T.F.C sell official replica gear eg. Shirts , trackshirts and baseball caps anywere on matchday ? P.J. Newcastle

The Town have are on there way to the top as Scappitici is playing wonderful, and i know why that is with a name like that, he's got to be off his head. Go on the Town. Paddy Phillips, Studing in Liverpool P.P. Newry

Having been playing football for a few months now, I wonder is there any chance of getting a place on the Newry Town team.Perhaps someone out there could help me, and perhaps pull a few strings, if you know what I mean. I will be working with my da all next week, so don't worry I'll be able to sort anybody out who helps me out. M.M. Newry

Just found the site, great! Anyone know if there are Newry Town Jerseys for sale anywhere? Well done on saturday lads, Juventus at the Showgrounds next season?? Anthony - Brooklyn, New York

Sadly sectarian chants and songs are part of Northern Irish soccer and N.T.F.C have to accept this. I was part of group of 20 people chanting such songs( just for a laugh) during the Portadown game and it was better than standing in the rather quite stand( with the Grandads) in front of the clubhouse. When Dessie Gorman scored our equaliser where did he run ? Straight to us supporters who were making the noise behind the goal. Anyway what a great result on Saturday v Glentroran , this proves Newry are just as good and are in a position to go for the title. P.Johnston - Newcastle Co.Down/ Manchester

well done on your web site, it is very good but could be better.Im sure lack of funds is the reason why.Iwas very interested on the comments regarding. the chanting and singing of abusive songs towards the opposition.Well let me tell you something i think that all football fanatics throughout the would also tell you. Unless there is rivalry football would be a completely boring game like say croquet. To quote Rodney Marsh"football should not be a grey game played by grey faces on grey days watched by boriing people"Ask the hawk does he want 25 people and a dog watching the games every week or does he want 500 lunatics chanting his name and winding up the opposition. Also tell me where does he run after he scores a goal over to the tea lady and the old guy sucking his pipe,no, he runs over to the nutters the lunatic and the psychos who really create the atmosphere. To be successful you have to be hated , your team, your fans and your town.To all those football lunatics who are game enough to chant songs, dont stop ,if you do NEWRY are going to be also rans.MON THE TOWN. Haggar, Melbourne

So glad to see Newry have built on the success of last season, my Dad would have been proud. My brother and I coming to Ireland in November and we are really looking forward to our first taste of 'the showground', when Newry play Ballymena on the 21st. Keep up the good work. J.S. Stevenage

I WAS AT THE GAME ON SATURDAY AGAINST PORTADOWN AND I THOUGHT THE ANTICS OF RONNIE MC FAUL WERE DISPICABLE.HE WAS JUMPING OFF HIS SEAT EVERY TIME THERE WAS A FOUL,TRYING TO INTIMIDATE THE REFEREE. ALRIGHT THE SENDING OFF WAS JUSTIFIED,BUT MC FAUL'S ACTIONS WERE LIKE SOMETHING FROM AN ITALIAN FOOTBALL MATCH. P.S. WHAT ABOUT THE GAVIN TREANOR SITUATION.HE'S ALREADY SCORED 9 GOALS FOR BALLYCLARE THIS SEASON. THAT'S AN EXCELLENT RECORD, CONSIDERING THEY'RE DUMP! DOES ANY OTHER FANS AGREE WITH ME THAT HE SHOULD BE AT THE SHOWGROUNDS?I WAS TALKING TO "THE HAWK" AND HE BELIEVES TRAINOR SHOULD BE PERSUADED TO COME BACK. P.P.S. JAB, IF YOUR READING THIS GET YOURSELF BACK HERE AND GET THAT JERSEY ON! WE'RE GOING PLACES AND YOU MUST BE SICK OF "HOME AND AWAY" AND ALL THOSE SHITE AUSSIE SOAPS BY NOW! Bajaldo, Newry

Supporters of Newry Town have been asked to refrain from the signing of sectarian slogans and songs in a recent programme. So while the supporters are asked to remain impartial on the political front, are the RUC to remain impartial on the footballing front? At the Portadown match (31.10.98) the RUC had a noticeable presence at the Showgrounds and mostly at the away stand. After Portadown went one goal up I saw an RUC man step behind his RUC van and raise his arms in a triumphant manner. It would be good if this could be caught on camera so the officer in question could be reprimanded, but that is unlikely. Politics and football don't mix. J.M. (Newry)

Well I have to say Newry Town have been the best team in the Irish league this season so far. Being a Newry supporter through and through I have to say buy another striker. Dessie Gorman is on his own up front and we need a left sided midfielder. Paul "Evo" Evans has got skill but he lacks speed. On the other hand Jonny Kenny is absolutely brilliant for the Town. The defence is doing well but while Jonny Drake was out with injury we looked a bit shakey. I was at the home games against Omagh and Crusaders and we were crap. Althrough against Omagh I felt that their keeper should have been sent off for taking Dessie out of it it was a very poor performance. And the match against Crusaders was the worst match I have ever seen. Apart from those two games the Town have been consistent in all their games. The game in Winsor Park was brilliant but they got that jamey equaliser near the end. I thought Dessie was stupid to raise his hands to the other Gorman. I really do feel that in the next few seasons New ry can emerge as champions. I wish Dessie and co all the best for the future and lets hope the goals keep rolling in. Barry F. Newry

R McGrath

Having finished the christmas break I just had to comment on what a sight that was at the Newry v Linfield game, it was well worth paying for a taxi from Newcastle to Newry ! . Although the game was dominated by Linfield, the Town defence was excellent and Stuart McClean was my man of the match. However I was disapointed by the actions of the Newry Town board who closed the enbankment behind the goal, why ?. C.Blevins

I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY, WELL DONE ON BEATING LINFIELD ON NEW YEARS DAY!! I THOUGHT THE MATCH WAS ONE OF THE BEST THIS SEASON. C.Blevins

NEWRY NEED A FORWARD AND A FAST ONE AT THAT IF THEY ARE TO CATCH THE BIG TEAMS THIS YEAR.WHAT ABOUT TRYING TO GET GAVIN TREANOR BACK OR PAY JAB FEEHAN'S FLIGHT BACK FROM DOWN UNDER AND SIGN HIM PROFESSINALLY. HE'D DO A BETTER JOB THAN "THE TWO MERCENARIES" SMYTH AND PEEBLES. KEEP STRANNEY AND DUMP PAUL EVANS- HE'S OUT OF HIS DEPTH IN THIS LEAGUE AND WE NEED A PROPER LEFT WINGER WHO CAN,ALONG WITH JOHN KENNY ON THE RIGHT WING, GIVE THE FORWARDS THE SERVICE THEY DEMAND. I am a devoted Newry town fan. I used to go to all their matches but the I moved to sheffield I heard about these websites when my friend posted me a programme I was at the united match we showed them. go on the town.I love the soup from the blue hut.anybody else feel the same way. DONT'T THINK OMAGH T. ARE CRAP BECAUSE THEY'LL GIVE A GOOD RUN FOR THE 3 POINTS THIS EVENING AT NEWRY. I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE NEWRY ON THEIR GOOD FORM RECENTLY BUT HOPEFULLY OMAGH WILL TAKE THE 3 POINTS THIS EVENING. A.McC - Lisnaskea

What a crap performance from the Newry team on Saturday against Crusaders. Newry really missed John Kenny down the wing. The managers could do with settling down the line-up instead of always chopping and changing. I think a little less beer and a bit more training on sprints might come in handy too, if we're to catch the Cocks at the top of the table. Pavis - Newry

Don't worry chaps, the Newry Ultra flag will soon be present at all home matches and a special one for the Ultras on Tour. Watch this space... Steve - Newry

As I walked down to showgrounds yesterday afternoon I was quite shocked to see all the bus fulls of drunken louts shouting abuse of a sectarian nature and waving their fingers in an offensive manner. This was all very well until I came across a fat, ugly, smelly, filthridden blaggard giving all sorts of foul mouthed abuse to a young, clean Newry lad. I was very annoyed at this joker and had to hope we would teach glentoran a footballing lesson. At the match Darren Strain,Neil Rafferty,Cunser,Cripper,Dee and company were making the only real noise to be heard of at the showgrounds and were getting various dirty looks from all, especilly Russell the crap Glentoran goalkeeper. Tristy, Newry

Well done on beating Linfield, role on the next opposition. Europe next season! Mark - Newry

Well , the automtatic-relegation spot aint big enough fer the both of us , scumbags !!! So , one of us is goin' DOWN , and it aint gonna be us ! Toon Army - Omagh Town FC

congrats to Newry Town on your recent victory against Cliftonville on Friday night. Keep up the good work lads Tracey, New York

At the recent Man Utd match I was flabberghasted to see Newry locals who have never even been to the Showgrounds before actually booing the Newry players as they came on in the second half.
These SHEEP all kitted out in the Man Utd uniform and chanting the names of their favourite stars none of whom could be seen at the match, are a shame and disgrace. One of these sheep, actually challenged me as I called for a Man Utd player to be sent off. I soon put him staight.
Cheers to all the real Newry fans out there, who should be proud of their team doing so well against the foreign opposition of the English Premiership. Simon - Newry

It was great to see the respect given to Harry Walsh who played for both Linfield and Newry in the 1940's and 1950's. He was highly respected throughout the Newry and Bessbrook areas.
It was also good to see the respect the Newry fans gave during a minutes silence at the Man utd match for the people of Omagh. Kevin - Newry

Nice site especially like the spinnie cube thingy.
Could you provide a link to my Norn Iron page
Thanks!

All your fans in New York are behind you.T.McL. New York

I was home from England at the weekend were I am currently studying and decided to attend the Newry Town v Bangor game. All I can say what a difference three years makes. The last game I was at there was only a handful of supporters but last Saturday I estimate that Newry Town had at least 1,000 fans. It was great to see but does the name glory-hunters come to mind ?. The match itself was a laugh with the banter and nonstop cursing among the crowd , the buzz when Gorman scored the goal was brilliant. If these fans really stick with Newry Town they can really go places. P.J.Newcastle

Its great to see this club do so well this season. Having been struggling for this last 4 or 5 seasons its really hard to believe Newry Town are one of the best sides in Northern Ireland. Other fans like P.K. from Larne F.C. are only jealous of our success and wishes they had our resources and ideas. P.J.Newcastle

Good on yez, great site and love the picture of the showgrounds, it brings a lump to the throat of a Newry exile. Morfay. Manchester

Newry?? A premier league team?? Are you mad?? How can they be classed as a premier club with a crap stadium and no fans. Even with all the money spent on has-beens, you're still crap. Larne FC on the way back P.K. Larne
