Although cricket came to prominence in England
in the late 18th Century it was in the middle of
the 19th Century that the sport became popular
in Ireland. The Newry area has now got senior
cricket again in the guise of Newry and Mourne
Cricket Club. Entering Division Four of the
Ulster Bank League the club are also part of the
Northern Ireland Cricket Union.
The Club Committee are:
Chairman Michael McKevitt
Treasurer Chris Dinsmore
Secretary Frank McKenna

Fixture Secretary Frank Lenny
Sports Development Alan Mitchell
Funding/Ladies Committee Ashley Mitchell
Associate Member Richard Lewis
Coach Tommy Nolan
Committee Members: Chris Barter, Alan Best,
Maurice Byrne, Killian Byrne, Adrian Murdock,
Michael Waterman
Still in its youth the club vitally needs the
youth of the area to get involved in the many
training sessions and matches organised.
Fully-equipped training facilities allow
newcomers to practice and develop their skills.
Davy Kidd is pictured here at one of the regular
training sessions.
The club are in the process of developing the
grounds at Telford Park, also home to Newry
Rugby Club, to accommodate Cricket matches. The
plans are shown here. Click on the plans to the
