Fantasy Newry Town Team
So who is YOUR fantasy Newry Town team. I'm not talking about Roy Keane, Carlos and Del Piero. I'm talking about Murphy, Larkin and Casey. This is how I would like to see
a local Newry Town team of the future. By local I'm being liberal - I mean
anyone from as far away as Downpatrick or Banbridge and as close as the
Warrenpoint Road - anywhere close enough to support The Town. Why don't you email me with yours and I'll add it to this page if its worthy !!
Any comments relating to your selection will also be appreciated.
Goalkeeper... Pat Jennings... i think he played for Newry
Right BACK.. Peter Eustace Newry. Stoke and England.. bet you didnt know that one.
Centre Half.. Tommy Grey. Good old iron centre half, when the chips were down, he was up for it
Sweeper... Stuart McClean. Bit of class, strong
Left back.. Tony Scappatticci.. hard as nails, good in the air, natural left footed, good crosser of ball
Right side midfield... John Kenny. Lightening fast, proved it in europe
Middle of Midfield.. Robbie Casey. well his record says it all.
Middle of Midfield... Joey Cunningham. Probably the best player in Ireland when with Portadown
Left side of midfield.. Johnny Corvan.. probably out of position. but natural on the left, would leave you for dead
UP FRONT.... Ollie Ralph... a legend at Newry Should be back there in some aspect, leading scorer for years in N.ireland and did he ever win the golden boot award for Europe?, or was he pipped at the post one year?.
up front... Marty Magee.. leathal up front. plenty of fire and not afraid to dish it out.

Barry Flynn's ideal Newry line-up - a lot of Newry locals although Drake is from Lisburn and Johnny McDonnell is from Dublin - but a good team nonetheless. Good to see The Hawk in there despite recent performances.
Francie McCabe sent this 'Dream Team' - Does Shane Mulholland and Adrian Larkin not figure or are you trying for a Carnbane Dream Team?
